Orania Berlin is famously one of the few boutique hotels in the city’s famously youthful, grungy Kreuzberg area, better known for clubs, drugs, kebabs and currywurst.
On paper, such an expensive hotel in such a place may seem incongruous, but Orania knows the new Kreuzberg well.
A new wave of partiers is around these days, who want to party ’til dawn, grab a luxury hotel breakfast (available until 2pm, gasp!), and later take four-hour naps between designer sheets.
Orania has also got a lively bar and events calendar of its own, and all in all is just a happening place that fits right into modern-day Kreuzberg.

Rooms coordinate in a hotel-esque way that we normally wouldn’t go for. Yet, the design works here, and the matchy-matchy of it all ends up on a delightful border of kitsch and cool.
We’re talking plush elephant headboards in a luxurious Bordeaux colour, against bright, fresh wood accents.
Rooms are named by size, which we love, ranging from a cosy crash-pad of 17 square metres to a vast 86 square metre expanse of velvety elephant decor.
Views vary, some out to a nearby courtyard, bathtubs and balconies depending on the room choice.
Some of the larger options actually work well for families, with sofa beds at the ready.
Others have connecting doors to smaller rooms, perfect for larger groups.
Windows are bright and plentiful, making for an easy, enjoyable stay.
We don’t think there’s a single room that wouldn’t work well, as long as you snag the size you want.
All rooms include gorgeous hardwood, designer furnishings, sitting areas, working areas, large HDTVs, Nespresso machines, and more.

A laid-back Breakfast Club offers a buffet and menu served until 2 pm, perfect for early risers and late returns alike.
You can get all the breakfast meats, sweets and coffees you could want, in a cheerful space designed to make a tired morning (or afternoon) excellent.
After breakfast is over, the hotel restaurant makes itself available for Asian-inspired dishes and a whole menu revolving around the delicacy of duck.
Those opting out of waterfowl will find plenty else to enjoy; the space itself is sleek and attractive.
Finally, we’ve got the bar. It’s a joyful space of neon bliss, offering up innovative cocktails and delightful events, with music five days a week.
You can get bar bites as well, if you end up peckish from not enough duck.
Guests with four-legged friends will be happy to note that dogs are welcome throughout the hotel. A super modern fitness centre allows our more active friends to stick to their workout schedules.
