Victory Hotel, Gamla Stan

At Victory Hotel in Gamla Stan/Old Town Stockholm, you sometimes feel like you’ve stepped into a weird, other world. There’s a persistent nautical theme, then there’s pure kitsch, and then you have these gorgeous, classically elegant-looking elements too. The building looks like it’s seen a thing or two in its time. It’s a 17th-century era number where, as it happens, Sweden’s largest silver treasure, known as the Lohe Treasure, was discovered in 1937. Not much silver left over now; decor is all sorts of ships’ interior type, shining wood coated… > Read Our Full Review

Lydmar Hotel

Lydmar is a luxury Stockholm boutique hotel with a more relaxed take on things than you may be used to. Lydmar embodies luxury lifestyle more than luxury hotel. You have the utmost in quality and comfort here, but it deliberately drops many hallmarks. No uniformed bellboys, marble hallways or stiff professionalism. That’s not to say the hotel doesn’t feel rich. It certainly does. They simply favour the vibes that go with sleek leather and black and white photography; recording studio vibes we might say. At Lydmar, guests wander around casually,… > Read Our Full Review

Ett Hem

Ett Hem (a home in Swedish) is a very grand, upscale house turned laidback luxury, boutique hotel. If you’re one to watch your wallet, we think the prices might raise an eyebrow, especially with the relatively limited facilities. But, it is Stockholm, and nobody said it would be cheap. The house is just stunning from the inside out. It’s a turreted brick situation on the corner of a quiet street in North Östermalm. Yet, we’d hesitate to call it opulent. Ett Hem is marketedly light on ostentation and heavy on… > Read Our Full Review

Stockholm Stadshotell

Stockholm Stadshotell, in the centre of Södermalm, is a simple, elegant, classic Scandinavian beauty. With all pale woods, ecru linens, and fuzzy throw pillows, it’s a hygge dream. Ah, sorry Sweden…mysigt dream. It was built in 1875 for the Queen Dowager Josefina, aka Josephine of Leuchtenberg, in honour of her late king of a husband, so it’s got some old royal swagger. Yet, the royal swagger stays in the architecture. You can admire soaring ceilings, gorgeous moulding, wrought iron, and a stately clock tower, but the interiors favour minimalism. It’s… > Read Our Full Review

Hotel Frantz, Stockholm

There’s an almost endless source of culture in Stockholm’s Hotel Frantz. The 1647 building was commissioned by a local tailor, with seemingly excellent taste. It’s a gorgeous red brick situation in cool, very central Södermalm. It sits beside a landmark building, Stockholms sjömanshem, and across from the City Museum. Inside, you’ll find plenty of style, traces of whimsy, some tiny but lovely rooms, a stunner of a breakfast, and a cosy bar. Hotel Frantz also has a retro-y kind of minimalism and hints of Art Deco. Nothing even comes close… > Read Our Full Review
