We have four boutique hotels on our Vancouver list, each with different strengths. If we had to pick an overall favourite, Loden Vancouver would be it. It’s a sleek polished hotel with great facilities and a convenient Coal Harbour location.

For something with more old-school character, we’d go for Wedgewood Hotel & Spa. It’s all classic interiors, suited bellhops and afternoon tea.

If you’re after something a little quieter (and less expensive,) L’Hermitage Hotel is a good option. The design & decor are pretty conventional but the service is excellent, the atmosphere calm and relaxing, and its got a nice, central location.

Then there’s Rosewood Hotel Georgia, which is the choice for full-on indulgence. It’s quite a nit larger than the others, and has a beautifully restored historic building, excellent dining, and a spa and pool.

Loden Vancouver

Taller than a lot of boutique hotels of the same capacity, Loden Vancouver’s height makes for some great views, even if the architecture isn’t going to blow your mind. Indeed, not much in this hotel is hugely groundbreaking, but that’s not why we love it. They do a great job of mixing the homey feel of an apartment with the hospitality a top hotel. Wedgewood Hotel & Spa

The Wedgewood Hotel & Spa stands as a bastion of old style civility in Vancouver’s modern Downtown. Bellhops are suited up, classic art and antiques abound and you’ve got seasonally themed, formal afternoon teas throughout the year. It was founded in the early 1980s by Eleni Skalbania, an old school Greek hotelier, who’s stated aim was to create the ambience of a European country-house There’s a real old-world feel to the Wedgewood then, but with enough modern amenities these days to keep it from feeling dated. Rosewood Hotel Georgia

First opening in 1927, Rosewood Hotel Georgia provides some old-time glamour to central Vancouver’s generally modern hotel scene. Not that it’s really a throwback to a former age, it has been much modernized, but with a clear respect for its roots. The original, twenties era, Hotel Georgia was a stately stone number with those glowing blade signs that make old hotels so charming. And there’s still gorgeous wrought iron and carved stone all around. Generally a boutique hotel shouldn’t be this big, but with the surprising lack of historical hotels… > Read Our Full Review

L’Hermitage Hotel, Vancouver

From the outside, L’Hermitage in Downtown Vancouver does a nice impression of a what a modern boutique hotel should look like. On the inside, there’s not much to complain about the aesthetics, but just not much to shout about, either. Yet, it is somehow quietly stylish, windows are large and a bit of natural light goes a long way to a pleasant atmosphere. Once we get our focus off the decor anyway, both the amenities and the exceptional service make it obvious why this hotel made our list. Guests rave… > Read Our Full Review
