The Lowdown: The Burgess Hotel, is Atlanta’s upscale Buckhead neighborhood’s only independent boutique hotel. It has a pleasantly refined atmosphere and, by all accounts, one of the city’s very best restaurants. It also has a bold, modern, international feel, with more than a touch of Asia – from its Hong Kong origin owners – the large dragon sculpture in the lobby for example, along with many oriental prints on the walls. Rooms: Your choices are as simple as it gets at the Burgess – you have either a room with a king bed or a room with two queen beds. All are spacious, clean and modern, they are minimalist in design but with bold bursts of color here and there. Nothing out of the ordinary for a luxury hotel is here but they are unmistakably chic and extremely comfortable. Check out all your room options here at Booking.com. Food, Drink & Facilities: The Burgess’ signature restaurant Fia, which creates wood-fired Western Mediterranean fare, is one of Atlanta’s most highly rated restaurants, while Mr. B, the hotel’s cozy library lounge, creates unique, highly inventive craft cocktails. The hotel’s pool sits in a lovely, green lush courtyard. It has its own outdoor bar and is a relaxing oasis for many guests when the weather is kind. The hotel’s state-of-the-art fitness center is a step above the vast majority of hotel gyms. Equipment includes Peloton bikes and Lateral X Ellipticals with adjustable 3D motion. Location: The Burgess is in Buckhead, near the PATH400 trail and surrounded by some of Atlanta’s swankiest businesses and most impressive-looking homes. Hal’s the Steakhouse, a veritable Atlanta institution, is nearby and some of the city’s best shopping can be found at Phipps Plaza and the Shops, Buckhead Atlanta. The hotel offers a complimentary transportation service for all guests within a two-mile radius. Some Guest Reviews: “We absolutely LOVE this property and the STAFF all around was AMAZING. Mark Hull was an incredible host/ bartender and a fantastic individual all around. Jacob at the front desk was a gem, as well as his colleague and the manager. A service on all levels. I wish I knew everyone’s name to give READ MORE

The Lowdown: The multi award winning Spectator Hotel’s famous lobby bar is a suave tribute to the Roaring Twenties. The rooms are a bit more modern in appearance, as are the exteriors, but the bygone-era like effect remains throughout. Service is legendary here – they have a small team of classically trained butlers wandering around, always at your service. The focal point lobby and bar serve as a kind of living room here for guests, and with such small numbers staying at any one time the atmosphere is intimate and friendly. It’s a very popular hotel, and also very small – it has just 41 rooms – so booking your stay in advance is recommended. Rooms: Just 41 rooms in total then but you have a deal of choice – from 377 sq. ft. entry level rooms to 538 sq. ft. Premier Penthouse Suites. Their entry level rooms are good value relative to the upper end suites we think, especially the ones with the balconies, and all the rooms seem to come with good views. None of them are particularly spacious though we have to say. But once that’s out of the way it’s very difficult to find fault with anything. They are bright, cheery and mainly dressed in white. They have king size beds, stylish lighting, plush carpets and velvet headboards alongside modern hotel amenities such as Nespresso coffee machines and cable TV. The bathrooms are white marble, and come with double vanity sinks, walk-in rain showers and locally made, Deep Steep luxury bath products. Prices & Availability: Enter your dates and check prices at Booking.com here. Food & Facilities: Surprisingly perhaps, there isn’t much in the way of food made at the hotel itself. Gourmet continental breakfasts are ordered in fresh from a local bakery and delivered to your room for example. There are many good restaurants nearby though, and your personal butler can pick up food from any number of them and deliver it to your room. There are drinks though in abundance at the marvelously atmospheric bar, which is also a popular spot with locals. It does snacks and small bites alongside its famous retro cocktails. READ MORE

The Lowdown: The Dylan, Dublin’s only 5-star boutique hotel, is an elegant little gem (72 rooms) neatly tucked away just steps from Baggot Street and the Grand Canal. Recently redesigned and renovated to great effect it certainly looks the part. More modern in style than before of course it still displays oodles of old-style elegance. The rooms are spacious and luxurious, the staff are highly praised, the food is of the highest order and the hotel bar is lively and friendly. Rooms: Each room is somewhat unique in style, and they come in three different levels – Luxury, Deluxe and what they refer to as Experience rooms – suites essentially. There’s not a lot to choose between their entry-level ‘Luxury Rooms’ and the Deluxe level, except for some extra space (26 m² as opposed to 20) and a few extra fancy design features. The suites are nicely done, but not, at 30 m², a huge amount larger than the Deluxe, though they do have a separate living space with a sofa-bed to accommodate a couple of extra guests if needed. All accommodation features some lovely handmade furniture pieces, Good Food Ireland complimentary hospitality trays, Nespresso machines, iPod docks and smart bathrooms with top-of-the-range showers. Check out all your room options here at Booking.com. Food, Drink & Facilities: The Eddison with outdoor veranda seating, is open for top-notch, made-to-order breakfasts, plus some beautifully fresh and inventive, contemporary Irish cuisine for lunch and dinner. The Dylan bar is a cozy, intimate place that has an extensive pub food menu – classics such as burgers and club sandwiches as well as various soups, salads and pastas, etc. It also has a good range of beers, spirits, fine wines and cocktails. There is a heated outdoor patio here, The Nurserie Terrace, which has table service from the bar’s menu, and a separate, very cute and cozy, guests-only bar, the Ruby Room, open every evening. There is no gym at the hotel but residents can access the Aorta gym, just around the corner. There’s secure parking at The Dylan and, by all accounts, a very good concierge service. The Lowdown: The Kimber Modern is another suave boutique hotel in Austin’s vibrant South Congress neighborhood. The design is sleek, colorful, and modern. The hotel has just 9 rooms in total and, with no staff for most of the day (though they are just a phone call away), it can feel more like a very upscale Airbnb than a hotel, though there is a great breakfast and an honor bar where you can socialize with fellow guests. Rooms: The Kimber Modern offers 9 unique guest rooms, each spacious and beautifully decorated in a relatively modern style. They are bright, clean and comfortable too with floor-to-ceiling windows that give ample natural light. Luxury amenities include soaking tubs, Frette linens, Malin + Goetz bath products, and Nespresso machines. Prices & Availability: Enter your dates and check prices at Expedia.com here. Food and Facilities: The Kimber Modern does not have a restaurant on-site, but you have a fine daily breakfast selection, making good use of fresh, organic, locally sourced ingredients. The hotel also offers a fully stocked honor bar, with a variety of beverages and snacks. For a meal outside, you won’t have far too go – some of the best restaurants in Texas are in the neighborhood, along with more casual eateries and food trucks. The hotel is a lovely space and all rooms surround a central courtyard and common area with a cozy fire pit and a soothing water feature. The hotel offers a state-of-the-art fitness center, complete with cardio and strength-training equipment, and they offer complimentary bikes. Location: The Kimber Modern is in the heart of Austin’s very lively South Congress neighborhood, a famous hub for music, food, culture, and shopping. It’s just a short walk away from some of the city’s most iconic attractions, including the South Congress Avenue shopping district, the Continental Club music venue, and the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail. The Lowdown: Where Chicago’s new coolest neighborhood, Andersonville, meets Lincoln Square, Uptown and Ravenswood lies the unassumingly titled Guesthouse Hotel. The place itself is also charmingly unassuming but has some of the best accommodations in the area. The Guesthouse is an aparthotel with guests staying in one, two and three-bedroom apartments with full kitchen facilities. Rooms: There are twenty-five apartments at the Guesthouse with the choice mainly just depending on the number of guests. The one-bedroom units can sleep up to four, the 1001 sq. ft. two bedrooms up to five, and the three-bedroom units up to seven with the help of a sofa bed. They are all broadly similar too – they mainly just differ in size – ranging from 601 sq. ft. to 1800 sq ft. The building used to be a luxury condo before its reincarnation as a boutique apart hotel and internally that’s pretty much what they are – luxury condos. Their design and decoration aren’t too dynamic, though they certainly have a touch of class and they are enormously comfortable, clean and bright. All come with a balcony and modern apartment facilities such as cable tv, Nest thermostat, dishwashers, washing machines, and tumble dryers. Prices & Availability: Enter your dates and check prices at Booking.com here. Food & Facilities: There’s no restaurant or bar at The Guesthouse but they have an agreement with two excellent local restaurants to supply catered meals on order. Southport Grocery delivers breakfast which includes delicious pancakes and French toast, and lunch with a range of gourmet sandwiches, salads and soups. In the evening then Calo, a local Italian restaurant can deliver a whole host of classic Italian dishes including some really great thin-crust pizza. It being a hotel and not just an apartment block there are some cool social spaces. The roof terrace is a cool place to hang out, weather permitting, and it has lounge chairs and a barbecue. So too are the small, cozy Club Room and Library adjacent to the entrance lobby. There are two small boutique, informal stores by the lobby too, one selling locally made arts n crafts, jewelry, teeshirts, and more, the other selling delectable READ MORE

The Lowdown: The highly respected Firmdale hotel company’s first non U.K. venture was the 11 floor, 86-room Crosby Street Hotel. Smack bang in the middle of SoHo, Manhattan but on a surprisingly quiet street, the location is very hard to beat. It has a cozy, homely feel throughout, though artistic flair abounds – most of the common areas and their individually designed rooms display a dazzling array of bold colors, quirky patterns and interesting art. The industrial style floor to ceiling windows allow for impressive views, particularly from the upper floors (they cost more though), and allow daylight flood the space. Unusually for a high end Manhattan hotel there is no signature restaurant here, but you have the happening Crosby Bar & Terrace which has a broad menu, very well received by guests, and excellent cocktails. Among its other amenities are a private garden, a guest only drawing room, several event and meeting rooms, a well equipped fitness center and a state-of-the-art 99 seat screening room. Rooms: Their 86 rooms and suites are all individually decorated and, as you can see in the photos, are a riot of color in places. They are also enormously comfortable and spacious. The mid to upper range suites are more like mini apartments than hotel rooms with very inviting lounge areas and fireplaces. Check your room options out here at Booking.com. The marble and granite bathrooms all display a nice sense of old world opulence. They all come with twin pedestal sinks, RikRak toiletries and, in the upper range suites, elegant bathtubs. Other amenities include work desks, minibars, safes, large cable TVs, Tivoli radios, air conditioning and black out curtains/blinds. The enormous windows replace entire walls and allow great views. The hotel has 11 floors and so naturally the higher you find yourself the better the views will be. Expect to pay more though for the upper floors. Prices & Availability: Enter your dates and check prices at Booking.com here. Food & Facilities The Crosby doesn’t have a signature restaurant but the Crosby Bar & Terrace does serve breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as brunch and afternoon tea on the weekends. The Lowdown: The Wilder is a cozy boutique hotel in a classic Georgian-era redbrick that has elegance and charm. It is also on a beautifully peaceful, tree-lined street that feels almost suburban but is yet just a short walk from Dublin city center. Rooms: There are just 42 rooms and suites in total, all of which are comfortable and stylish, though their entry-level rooms are not spacious by any means. They all are though beautifully presented, and display plenty of historic character. Period fixtures abound, including some lovely old fireplaces, alongside more contemporary art pieces and luxury hotel mod-cons. Check out all your room options, and check prices here at Booking.com. Food, Drink & Facilities: Their fine breakfasts are served in the Garden Room, which also if the weather allows, has outdoor seating in the garden. A la carte options include the full Irish, buttermilk pancakes, and a range of egg dishes, alongside a buffet of fresh homemade breads, muffins, granola, juices, yogurts, and fresh fruits. They also serve small dishes throughout the day (until 10pm) at The Wilder – sandwiches, soups and charcuterie plates, plus a range of drinks in the Gin & Tea Rooms. Only guests have access to these spaces so the atmosphere is generally familiar and warm. Not surprisingly due to its size, the hotel doesn’t have much in the way of facilities – no gym or spa for example, though they do have on-site parking. Reception is open 24 hours and the staff are helpful and friendly. Location: The Wilder is on Adelaide Road, near the Grand Canal and about a ten-minute, pleasant, walk to Grafton Street, or a couple of minutes on the LUAS tram system which has a stop nearby. Two of Dublin’s nicest parks, Iveagh Gardens and St Stephen’s Green, are also nearby, as are the many lively bars of Camden Street and Harcourt Street. The Lowdown: The 4-Star Morgan Hotel offers surprisingly good value accommodation in the heart of Temple Bar, Dublin’s heavily touristed entertainment quarter. It’s a sleek, modern place with spacious rooms, excellent food and drink, and though this part of the city can get quite wild at night The Morgan somehow keeps it calm and classy. With 168 rooms, The Morgan may be on the large side for a boutique hotel but the atmosphere is warm and personable. Rooms: Their rooms are spacious, airy and modern. They are the rooms of a confident luxury hotel though they don’t have much in the way of radical design flair. Their junior suites are their most impressive, and most spacious, and have a romantic in-room soaking tub. All the rooms come with mod-cons such as Nespresso machines, minibars, trays of snacks, air-con, and safes, as standard. The bathrooms have top-of-the-range showers, and The White Company from London supplies all the toiletries. The Morgan is, as mentioned above, in a very lively part of town but the soundproofing in the rooms does an impressive job. Check out all your room options, and check prices here at Booking.com. Food, Drink & Facilities: The Morgan overlooks one of the busiest streets in Temple Bar – Fleet Street – so their ’10 Fleet Street Restaurant & Bar’ can be quite busy. Despite the location, it’s not a place for drunken revelry though – most people are there for food and drink and conversation and will tend to move on to move lively spots as the evening wears on. There’s a lovely outdoor courtyard at The Morgan too with seating for drinking and dining al fresco. The menu isn’t groundbreaking – they serve Irish and International classics mostly – but the quality is excellent, and they have an extensive cocktail and wine menu. In terms of facilities at The Morgan, they have meeting facilities and there is secure parking (independent from the hotel) across the road. There is no gym or spa here though but guests are free to use the Westwood Gym on Aston Quay, right around the corner which also has sauna and steam rooms. Location: Hotels READ MORE

The Lowdown: Hotel Clermont, in the heart of Atlanta’s trendy Poncey-Highland neighborhood, is a celebration the city’s eclectic history. The hotel has a storied past, having once been a somewhat disreputable 1920s-era hot spot before it fell into disrepair. In recent years, it has been lovingly restored to its former glory, with both vintage-inspired decor and amenities that are thoroughly modern. Playful design details abound – like the goldfish bowl in the lobby and the neon pink sign on the rooftop bar that reads, “We are not a hotel, we are a refuge.” Rooms: Hotel Clermont’s 94 rooms are divided into several categories. Double rooms are cozy, yet stylishly appointed with a queen bed and whimsical touches like retro rotary phones. The Deluxe Double rooms are outfitted with two queen beds. Their King rooms then are a step ahead in size and with king beds instead of queen. Their top-of-the-range is the Clermont Suite, the hotel’s largest accommodation, with separate living and sleeping areas, a king bed, and a large balcony with sweeping views of Atlanta. The Lowdown: Only open since 2018 the Angad is a bright and bold new addition to the hotel scene in St. Louis, Missouri. It has, as the name suggests, a strong emphasis on art and is a veritable showcase for local talent. Throughout the building you can admire curated sculpture pieces, paintings, video art and photographs from local artists, the majority of which are also available to buy. Color is also a strong theme at Angad with most of its 146 rooms having an exact equivalent in a different color. On the understanding that color affects mood you can choose between green for rejuvenation, yellow for curiosity, red for empowerment and blue for freedom. Its location right in the heart of St. Louis’ Grand Center Arts District is fitting and here you are within walking distance of some of the city’s best restaurants, cafes, bars, theaters and galleries. The Lowdown: The Bowery’s 17 floors tower over New York’s buzzy East Village allowing its rooms some of the very best views around. The hotel has a buzz all of its own too and is something of an A-list hang out. Photos are strictly prohibited in the lobby bar for example and its upper level suites are not available to be booked online, just to give you an idea. It’s not cheap by any means, and some guests do complain about the size of the rooms, but The Bowery has such an uber cool reputation that it doesn’t really need to care. The location is very convenient: you’re a short walk away from East Village, Greenwich Village, Chinatown, Little Italy, Nolita, SoHo, NoHo and the Lower East Side. Rooms: The Bowery has 110 rooms and 25 suites, with all but one type of suite – the 400 square feet studio suite – being unavailable to book online. Check out all your room options here at Booking.com. The rooms range in size from 250 to 350 square feet and are certainly comfortable, if not very decorative. They have something of a vintage feel too, and lots of dark woods combined with brightly colored upholstery and linens. The marble bathrooms are particularly vintage in style. Entry level rooms have walk in rainfall showers while higher up the chain you will also find bathtubs. All are supplied with luxury C.O. Bigelow or Lingua Franca bath amenities and terry robes. The views, as mentioned are a real highlight, from pretty much any floor. The floor-to-ceiling, warehouse-style windows can also take much of the credit. Prices & Availability: Enter your dates and check prices at Booking.com here. Food & Facilities: The Bowery’s signature restaurant is Gemma – a well-known celebrity hangout. It is a rustic, trattoria-style Italian located on the ground floor. The food is mainly traditional Italian with a seasonal menu and an extensive Italian wine list, but the menu is varied and doesn’t shy away from giant burgers, fries, strip steaks and the like. Its pizzas too are legendary. Guests of the hotel can happily order from the menu 24 hours via room READ MORE
