The 1890 Freeman House

This boutique hotel is a laid-back, sumptuously decorated turn-of-the-century mansion in Galveston’s Historic District. As a historic property, expect personality, like uneven floors and interestingly placed windows. Besides these, the property is done up in modern comfort. The house itself is one of the surviving structures from the famous Great Storm of 1900, making it a piece of history itself. It’s surrounded on all sides by other historical gems, the perfect base for Galveston’s cultural charms. Staff are a nice balance of available and out of the way, though if… > Read Our Full Review

Hotel Lucine

This pastel paradise by the Seawall is a super-charming place to experience the laid-back city of Galveston. It’s a renovated 1963 motel with a shiny white set of rooms with colored accent walls, and all matches nicely the easy-going island atmosphere. The whole effect is a bit hipster Barbie on vacation, which we really can’t hate. Common areas are peppered with local art, filled with unassuming yet beautiful furniture. Everything’s just a tiny bit muted, but still colorful. It’s decidedly contemporary, so head to the Historic District if you want… > Read Our Full Review

The house, unsurprisingly, is lovely, but the way the interiors have been updated lends it that extra bit of upscale elegance. The colors are soft but not boring, the… > Read Our Full Review

The Tremont House

This Victorian-era hotel in the heart of Galveston’s Historic District is your best bet for some classic Southern luxury. Part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, The Tremont House occupies a 1879 building formerly concerned with dry goods, transformed into a hotel in the 1980s. Before that, however, the Tremont House was an established hotel with horrible luck. Two former buildings succumbed to a fire and a hurricane each. In the new location, you can relax on the Mascioni linens under gorgeous molding in the historic annex of the hotel. Other spaces… > Read Our Full Review
