Boutique Hotel Mittendrin is a big-city Berlin hotel but with beautifully intimate B&B vibes.
It’s tucked into a small house right next to a shopping mall and a Crowne Plaza.
If you want a quaint little neighbourhood, this might not be the spot, but we think the hotel benefits from comparison with all the big-ticket options nearby.
And, you’re close to a whole lot of excellent places to explore.
Created by a former actress, the space is designed to feel warm and welcoming, offering up the owner’s idea of what she wished she encountered on her many travels.
Her measured, friendly personality permeates the hotel, make it unreplicable.
The combination of location, transportation access, and cosy rooms, is fantastic, if unique. It might be a challenge to snag one of the few (just 4!) rooms available, but it’s worth the effort.
What are the rooms like?
- 4 rooms – each has its own distinctive theme, with personally chosen furnishings and a warm, individual character.
- Modern room – sleek prints, large windows, and a sophisticated black and yellow-tan colour scheme.
- Romantic room – floral details, brass, red velvet, and delicate moulding make this an appealing choice for couples.
- Classic & Mediterranean – colourful rooms with a shared bathroom, particularly suitable for families booking both.
- Bathroom arrangements – Modern and Romantic have en-suite bathrooms, while Classic and Mediterranean share facilities.
- Homely comforts – all rooms include radios, kettles, robes, slippers, and views of either the city or garden.

Each of the four rooms has its own theme, though there’s a common thread of personal attention and care throughout.
The rooms don’t feel as though they’ve been meticulously planned in a design studio.
Instead, they have the feel of spaces put together by the owner, with carefully chosen furnishings and plenty of personality.
The Modern room has sleek prints, large windows and a black and yellow-tan colour scheme that feels both sophisticated and welcoming.
The Romantic room is all flowers and brass, red velvet and delicate moulding, making it a lovely choice for a couple.
Both have en-suite bathrooms, while the other two rooms, Classic and Mediterranean, share a bathroom.
They make a great combination for a family, with the warm colours of the single Mediterranean room complementing the bright violets of the Classic.
All four rooms are comfortably furnished, with radios, kettles, robes, slippers and views of either the city or the property’s garden.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Generous breakfast – a hearty communal spread with homemade jams, fresh breads, cheeses, fruit, and even prosecco.
- Personal hospitality – welcome drinks, little snacks, and thoughtful extras make the experience feel more like visiting a friend.
- Art-filled interiors – paintings by a local artist decorate the house, giving the shared spaces a gallery-like quality.
- Special occasions – the host can arrange champagne, flowers, and other personal touches for celebrations.
- B&B atmosphere – the focus is on intimate service and individual attention rather than extensive hotel facilities.
The style here is B&B, meaning a hearty breakfast is waiting for you each morning. It’s shared at a long table, morning friendliness fuelled by prosecco and homemade jams.
The rest of your stay is peppered with thoughtful touches, small snacks and welcome drinks.
Gifts in the form of perfectly selected paintings by a local artist round out the charm of the place, transforming common areas into a gallery of sorts.
We don’t recommend breaking into other rooms to see the paintings there, however. You’ll find plenty just by wandering around the house.
You can also contact the host for extra arrangements. Ask for a bottle of bubbly waiting on arrival, for a stunning bouquet to brighten up an anniversary trip.
This is boutique accommodation at its most intimate.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Bavarian Quarter – an upscale residential neighbourhood with convenient access to shopping, restaurants, and central Berlin.
- Berlin Zoo – the Zoological Garden is within around 10 minutes on foot, opening onto the extensive Tiergarten park.
- Nearby culture – small churches, theatres, and the Museum of Photography offer plenty to explore locally.
- Excellent transport – nearby U-Bahn stations make travelling across Berlin straightforward.
- Major landmarks – Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate are around 15 minutes away by public transport.
We love Boutique Hotel Mittendrin’s location, right in the Bavarian Quarter. It’s an upscale residential neighbourhood, for sure, but this is the north side of it, closest to the centre of Berlin.
From here, you can easily walk to any number of attractions. The closest are underrated gems, small churches and theatres.
Still, within 10 minutes you’ll be at the Zooilogical Garden, which opens up to the entirety of Tiergarten and its many opportunities for outdoor adventure.
The Museum of Photography is not far either.
Still more convenient are the many transportation options. Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate are an easy 15-minute ride.
Even the East Berlin nightlife is easy to get to, with access to the U-Bahn a breeze.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Sabine is a warm and welcoming host, who pays attention to the smallest of details. Her apartment is centrally located to lots of shopping and restaurants in a safe neighborhood. There are a few subway stations conveniently located. Sabine provides a very generous and beautifully presented breakfast with something for everyone including eggs to order, breads, cheeses, meats, yogurt, fruit, and pastries. She even provided special bags for us to pack sandwiches and fruit for our early departure at check out so they would stay fresh. My husband and I shared a spacious room with our adult daughter and we all slept comfortably. The spacious bathroom for our unit was located across the hall and was just for our use. Everything was immaculate. Sabine obviously takes pride in the service and amenities she provides. We enjoyed hearing about life in Berlin and gained knowledge from her that we would not have at a typical hotel….”
