Brewhouse Inn & Suites

This Milwaukee, Wisconsin, boutique hotel in the old Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery is a millennial dream come true. It’s a blue-ribbon establishment guaranteed to invoke at least a little nostalgia for college nights you may or may not remember very clearly. And, to be honest, for a brand associated with working class cheap, we were surprised at how swank it is. It’s absolutely post-industrial chic. Almost everything has exposed brick, the windows are arched and gorgeous, and ceilings soar over both wooden beams and shiny ducts. It’s definitely been seriously… > Read Our Full Review

Schuster Mansion B&B

The historic Schuster Mansion B&B, in the western part of Milwaukee might be a bit out of the way, but it’s perfect if you want to feel cozy and taken care of. The neighborhood is full of stately homes with verdant lawns and grand entrances (many of them also B&Bs), but Schuster Mansion definitely feels like the king. The 1891 bright red brick and terracotta residence definitely stands out, with turret-like elements, plenty of archways, and impeccably managed grounds. Of course, it’s the indoors you’ll really want to get a… > Read Our Full Review

Kimpton Journeyman

The Kimpton Journeyman is a Third Ward favorite that raises the bar for luxury boutique hotels in Milwaukee. It doesn’t tie the space much to Milwaukee, though. It’s a bit like someone 3D printed it you could say. It’s an IHG hotel and, as with a lot of the chains, there’s more of the feeling that you’re in a Kimpton/IHG hotel, rather than in a (insert city here) hotel. Well, that’s the point, some might say, and anyway, there are far worse places you could find yourself, in Milwaukee or… > Read Our Full Review

Graduate Madison

Graduate hotels are always a safe boutique option, and this one in the center of Madison is a good representation of the brand’s brand of laid-back comfort. The building can definitely be considered On Campus™, which fits the bill for a Graduate. A brick and glass and metal construction, it could easily be a dorm, the Communications Building, or whatever other swanky building needs up-to-date facilities and an easygoing sophistication. It is a hotel in a University town, no doubt, and there is admittedly a collegiate sort of vibe to… > Read Our Full Review

Hotel Ruby Marie

If you’d like to explore Madison away from the University bustle, this historic hotel in the Capitol Neighborhoods is the perfect place. Even if you don’t mind the old college spirit, this is an impeccable find. We’d call it a hidden gem if we hadn’t just decided to start singing its praises to the internet. The independently owned bed and breakfast occupies a stunning 1873 brick building with a super-charming sign and unique architecture. It’s not the building’s first time as a guest house, though the entire interior was renovated… > Read Our Full Review

Kinn Guesthouse Downtown

Kinn Guesthouse, Downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a self-proclaimed experiment in luxury accommodation. It’s a mix of apartment a la Airbnb, boutique hotel, and super fancy hostel for adults (but don’t tell them we used the h-word). In our humble opinion, all takes on what tourists really want, and how the tourism industry can better behave itself, are welcome There are no people waiting on you here, besides the friendly e-hosts. But you have a set of impeccably decorated suites with extensive shared kitchen facilities and more recommendations from the hosts… > Read Our Full Review

Hotel Indigo Madison

The Madison location of IHG’s boutique hotel line is good for anyone who wants to be central but with less of a University of Wisconsin adjacent experience. It’s a straightforwardly charming brick building on the east side of the city’s historic district, with easy access to the main attractions. Like most Indigos, there’s a stylish contemporary vibe, with plenty of glass, bold colors and unique furnishings. It fits nicely into the laid-back youth of the city, cheekily toeing the line between fun and discerning. There are events, there are common… > Read Our Full Review

Mansion Hill Inn, Madison

Another Madison, Wisconsin, boutique hotel near the lively University area, the Mansion Hill Inn offers familiar old style luxury. This is definitely the Ruby Marie Hotel’s rich cousin; the wrought-iron balconies and stained-glass contrast easily with the other hotel’s streetwise brick. Whichever vibe appeals to you, we say you should follow your heart. And here is the place to be if your heart likes beautiful old things. It’s a building with a rich history. It was created by the Capitol building’s contractor, originally for his family, then was used as… > Read Our Full Review

The Iron Horse Hotel

This motorcycle-centered independent hotel near Walker’s Point, Milwaukee, is a super unique stay catered towards road warriors, but open to all. We might detect whiffs trying too hard, but it’s easy to overlook that in exchange for some hip leather couches and a post-ride massage. Of course, it’s probably best appreciated by the Harley-Davidson demographic it’s aimed at, but we think just about anyone can find something to appreciate here. The accommodation is modern, chic, and comfortable, while the common areas all have an edge that can be hard to… > Read Our Full Review

The Saddlery Madison

We’re genrally a bit wary of apart-hotels, but this gorgeous building near the Madison, Wisconsin Capitol has enough charm to make it into our good books. The building is an old saddlery (hence the name), and a really lovely brick cube with all the gorgeous windows and plenty of ornamental brickwork. It’s a lovely place to call home for a few days, a week, or even a couple of months. The Saddlery is open to both short and long-term reservations. For independent travelers who like plenty of space, their own… > Read Our Full Review
