Hotel La Gemma

Hotel Gemma’s 19th-century building provides a distinctly Florentine backdrop and the interiors keep it classic, drawing much from Art Deco. There’s lots of green about in some of the rooms, as you can see from the photos. But, in general, enough pale pinks, polished marble and well chosen wallpapers though to mix things up just a little. Rooms and suites have marble bathrooms, parquet floors, generous natural light and helpful details like minibars, quality linens and functioning workspaces. Our favourites are the Junior Suites overlooking the Duomo and the larger… > Read Our Full Review

The James Suite Hotel

The James Suite Hotel is a beautifully intimate luxury boutique hotel in Florence. Hidden within a renovated 16th-century palazzo near Sant’Ambrogio, it offers atmosphere, character, personality. We just love the interior design: the velvet furnishings, low lighting, towering plants and decorative lanterns. It’s all just lavishly beautiful. Every room feels quite an event, with frescoed ceilings, canopy beds, soaking tubs, contemporary art and private outdoor spaces. Dining is another highlight. The James Restaurant occupies one of the most memorable spaces in the hotel, where a dramatic glass roof. We’d recommend… > Read Our Full Review

Oltrarno Splendid

In Florence’s more bohemian creative Oltrarno district, Oltrarno Splendid feels entirely at home. It’s a stay with genuine personality, and offers a good value, interesting alternative to the more central hotels. The design caught our attention. Vintage Italian elegance sits comfortably alongside bohemian influences, with exposed beams, aged walls and eclectic furnishings. Each of the 14 rooms is different, yet there is a clear thread running through them all. We love the way historic architectural details are allowed keep their impact. The King Deluxe Rooms are our favourites, and we… > Read Our Full Review

Riva Lofts Florence

Riva Lofts occupies a rather different corner of Florence from the one most visitors know. Set west of the historic centre near the River Arno, this boutique hotel feels less like a city base and more like a secluded retreat that happens to have Florence within reach. Riva Lofts embraces an apartment-style approach in the larger suites but also offers the conveniences of a full-service stay. Each room is individually designed with soaring ceilings, large windows and a calm, minimalist aesthetic. Larger lofts include kitchenettes. The communal areas are inviting…. > Read Our Full Review

Ottantotto Firenze

Florence’s more local Oltrarno district offers a different perspective on the city, and here we have Ottantotto Firenze, one of those boutique hotels we keep coming back to when looking for character. Occupying a centuries-old palazzo, it embraces its historic shell beautifully, with a subtle interior design style we just adore. We also love the scale. With only seven rooms, this boutique hotel feels more like a stylish private residence than a conventional hotel. Each room has its own personality, combining bare stone walls, patterned wallpapers, warm lighting and thoughtfully… > Read Our Full Review
