Hotel Peter & Paul in New Orleans’ Marigny feels less boutique hotel than carefully composed movie set. It’s a reformed rectory, convent and school house, part of the Ash Hotels approach to adaptive reuse, where history is gently amplified into something semi theatrical The atmosphere is pushed along by antique furnishings, muted textiles and highly detailed interiors that make the whole property feel quietly cinematic. We particularly like how each building carries its own mood, with the intimate, School House Rooms being our favorite. The Elysian Bar, set within the… > Read Our Full Review

Now part of Hyatt’s Unbound Collection, Maison Métier retains the atmosphere of its former life as Maison de la Luz, with its old French opulence and a gallery like aesthetic. Light mustard tones, delightful Beaux Arts staircases, antiques, and carefully curated contemporary art fill the spaces here. The public spaces feel quite residential, like you’re visiting an aristocratic old friend. A nice hang out is Salon Salon, the library turned bar, with its red walls and eclectic seating. It’s an honor bar too which makes the hotel feel even more… > Read Our Full Review

Audubon Cottages in New Orleans’ French Quarter is one of those places where the modest street frontage gives little away about what lies inside. Once through the gate, we have just seven historic cottages arranged around a leafy courtyard. It all feels remarkably secluded for somewhere only a block from Bourbon Street. It’s accommodation in touch with its heritage and you see exposed brick and wooden beams, antique furniture and motifs in all the cottages, one of which was the former residence of naturalist James Audubon, hence the name. Hotel Henrietta sits on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans’ Garden District where it stands apart from the surrounding 19th-century mansions with a more straightforward looking Bauhaus-inspired modern form. As a boutique hotel it feels nicely restrained with warm minimal interiors featuring mid-century tones, custom furnishings and artwork. Rooms are unusually spacious, with many opening onto balconies overlooking the avenue, and the palms and greenery just below. We like the social spaces a lot too. They revolve around a marble bar, a leafy patio, and a fire pit where guests… > Read Our Full Review

The Pontchartrain Hotel is a calm, elegant boutique hotel in New Orleans. In one of our favorite NOLA neighborhoods in fact – the Garden District. It’s just far enough from the French Quarter to avoid the noise etc., but also just minutes away via the streetcar that stops right outside the hotel. Pontchartrain is a more refined hotel than most, and we just love the old school glam interiors. All that velvet upholstery, the old style chandeliers, wall portraits and floral artwork. Little details then like the scarlet awning and… > Read Our Full Review

The Brakeman Hotel is in Basin St. Station, New Orleans’ last remaining railroad station, dating back to 1904. It’s architecturally lovely and gets photographed a lot – tour buses even stop outside. You have to be impressed with such a lovely, historic framework for a hotel, and particularly the café and bar that sit like waystations within it. The streetcar turned giftshop is another nice touch. Rooms are simple, with exposed brick, leather accents and functional layout. Nothing to write home about, and the carpets and curtains take the patterning… > Read Our Full Review
