In an emerging destination like Asheville, it can be difficult to find a boutique hotel that feels established but not out-of-touch, but this Downtown fixture has it all.
As one of the hotels that set Asheville’s popularity in stone, it’s cool without feeling trendy, paying loving tribute to the old factory building’s past.
You’ll feel the palpable romance of old brick and unique stairways that gleam with some kind of post-industrial elegance.
It’s not just a lot of references to steel production, however. This boutique hotel does an impeccable job of establishing its own personality out of bespoke metalwork, rich furnishings, and a healthy dose of Edison bulbs.
Overall The Foundry, with the weight of Hilton’s Curio Collection behind it, is the nice mix of character, indulgence, and legacy.
What are the rooms like?
- 87 rooms blending exposed brick, leather accents, and marble bathrooms
- Large windows bring natural light and spacious feel
- Modern comforts include wet bars, mini-fridges, workspaces, and TVs
- Historic King rooms retain original building features
- Suites available from studio charm to 1500 sq. ft. Lookout
- See all rooms in detail here on the booking page
Rooms draw heavily on exposed brick to create a feeling of rustic glamour, with leather headboards, royal blue and scarlet accents. More demure grays and tans balance out the windows and floor.
Most rooms feature oversized industrial windows that keep things feeling plush, but also breathable and bright.
You won’t want for much, with wet bars, coffee makers, mini fridges and kettles in every room.
They created workspaces for the studio and included TVs for the couch potatoes among us.
Bathrooms are white ad gray marble and tile with luxurious bath amenities.
We’re suckers for the Historic King rooms, which feature hardwood flooring and other elements of the original building.
For those who want something a little more opulent, all the suites are quite special.
If you don’t need huge space, the Studio King Suite’s high ceilings and arching windows are uncompromisingly charming.
If you do the 1500 square foot two-bedroom Lookout is here for you.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Benne On Eagle serves inventive soul food for breakfast and brunch
- Workshop Lounge offers cocktails in a stylish common area
- Free Tesla service to Downtown and River Arts District
- Fitness center with exposed brick and mural for character
The Workshop on Lounge is the perfect place for some afternoon or evening cocktails, set in a hip common area featuring contemporary cute barstools and egg chairs that look like they came out of the Sims (bb.moveobjects on).
Benne On Eagle, however, is very tasty don’t-miss. It cooks up a mouth-watering selection of inventive soul food-style breakfast and brunch.
Three of our favorite descriptors makes for some tasty fried chicken and sweet potato waffles and Romesco grits.
It’s a town of drinks and snacks, however, so we recommend you get out there for more Asheville flavor.
The complimentary Tesla service will take you anywhere Downtown or to the River Arts District.
A 24-hour fitness center is also available for the more active guests. It’s a cool spot with much more personality than your average hotel gym, featuring (surprise!) exposed brick and a gorgeous mural.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Historic Block neighborhood with black-owned businesses and YMI Center
- Walking distance to breweries, Art Museum, and central Asheville
- Biltmore Estate, River Arts District, and West Asheville accessible by transit
- Hotel car service available for nearby attractions
Technically not fully Downtown, Foundry is rather more in the Block, Asheville’s historically black neighborhood, and it’s a good place to check out the revival of black-owned businesses and the YMI Cultural Center.
You’re also walking distance from about a million breweries, the Art Museum, and the center of town. We’d recommend some good, old-fashioned wandering.
Other attractions like the famed Biltmore Estates, the factory-chic River Arts District and West Asheville are a bit further.
Most though are serviced by the charmingly named ART, Asheville’s rapid transit system, and some are in range for the hotel’s car service.
