This eco-friendly hotel in Midtown Greensboro, North Carolina is a shining example of alternative takes on luxury accommodation.
A fully independent offering made from recycled materials, there’s an old-meets-new vibe here that pretty much sums up the hotel’s entire thing.
We’re talking old-school hospitality standards in a new space strapped into the latest in sustainable design.
The building’s facade would look elegant in any century, featuring large, square windows with bold frames. It’s post-industrial without any actual industry.
In many ways it’s the Greek art student from Common People of hotels.
All the clever glasswork means interiors have that open, sunny quality we all love. It works well with the landscaping, which offers plenty of green space for guests to enjoy.
Service is solid, rooms are cozy and plush. There’s nothing to suggest that this hotel sacrificed any quality in their bid for LEED Platinum status.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 147
- Variety of room types: from King Singles to Lofts and City Suites
- Comfort & amenities: blackout curtains, climate control, soundproofing, filtered air, TVs, coffee machines, mini-fridges

There are plenty of room types to choose from, from King Singles up to Loft Studios and City Suites on the top floor.
These have got the coolest windows, hands down.
Decor is not super-inspiring, though we’re more or less happy to trade the floral wallpapers and hardwood flooring for solar.
It’s quite gray, with a couple of pretty pieces of furniture that really don’t mesh with the post-industrial style we’re getting from the architecture.
The pieces are all solid, but we’re not convinced they make a stunning whole. Let’s call it an engineer’s hotel more than a designer’s hotel and leave it at that.
The comfort, of course, is all-in.
We’ve got blackout curtains for light sleepers, climate control, soundproofing and filtered air.
All rooms will also have lovely vanities, plush robes, TVs, stereos, coffee machines and mini fridges.
Lofts and Suites add space for meeting and lounging. The King Spa includes a pretty stunning soaking tub.
Original artwork by North Carolina artist Chip Holton adorns all the rooms.

How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Midtown Greensboro: a mix of malls, restaurants, and cinemas
- Nearby gardens: Botanical Garden, Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, Lake Daniel Greenway

Midtown Greensboro, North Carolina, is an interesting place, more of a rich developer’s brainchild than an organically formed city center.
There’s a cinema, a handful of interesting restaurants, and a LOT of mall space. Bring your credit cards.
If you head towards Battleground Ave, however, you will find some decent restaurants, a barbecue joint, and a few local spots tucked into the strip mall-esque space.
Once you get past the small, however, the Botanical Garden and Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden are the perfect places to get some outside time.
It’s pretty easy to connect to the Lake Daniel Greenway as well.
But mostly, we think you’ll prefer to have a car if you’re staying here.
If you’ve got a kid involved, you’ll definitely need wheels to take full advantage of the city’s top attractions.
The Science Center is 15 minutes away, Gateway Gardens is around 12, and Wet ‘n Wild Emerald Pointe Water Park is about 20.
Even adults will probably want to head downtown, which takes less than 10 minutes and puts you at an easy distance of Greensboro’s rather bustling Downtown.
The Weatherspoon Art Museum and Greensboro History Museum are within a 10-minute drive of each other, each free to enter and top-notch.
The gorgeous Carolina Theatre of Greensboro sits between them.
The Weatherspoon is near the UNC Campus, for anyone on academic business.
For a good hang, head to Elm Street. It’s pretty solid for whatever your idea of a good hang is, including a barcade, Center City Park, and plenty of cafés and restaurants.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“The restaurant is absolutely the most delicious food I have eaten in ages and Jordan – one of the servers in the restaurants is absolutely AMAZING! They even baked us fresh chocolate cookies which were not on the menu! The rooms are large, very well and modernly decorated. Lots of amenities. The check in and check out staff were very nice and one even went out of their way to find the name of the mattress manufacturer used in the rooms because it was so comfortable and my friend wanted to order one for her house!…”
“Perfect. You can tell this is an employee run business. The rooms were brights with large windows and very quiet despite being close to road. The restaurant was amazing from quick snack, to dinner, to breakfast….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Our bed was not as comfortable as it could have been….”
”There is not a lot to do around the area but that has nothing to do with the hotel itself….”
