TL;DR
- Historic charm: with a 1990 remake of a 1919 hotel in Midtown Greensboro
- Bright & elegant: interiors with woodwork, brick, and red awnings
- Upscale amenities: including afternoon tea, small pool, and cloister garden
- Convenient for mall-goers: but less authentic Greensboro feel

This Midtown Greensboro hotel sits in the middle of Friendly Center Shopping Village, a slightly odd spot for a pretty cool hotel.
It’s a 1990 remake of a 1919 hotel that lived in Downtown Greensboro before its demolition in 1979.
This gives the space a historical vibe with plenty of modern amenities. It’s all bright red awnings and brick, and stunning woodwork interiors, both stately and fresh.
The atmosphere carries through to the amenities and services. There’s an afternoon tea, a small pool, and a super charming cloister garden (available for weddings!).
We don’t want to fully gloss over the location, which we categorically do not like. It’s a mall, and not even the fun, Grove-style mall with fountains and dog bakeries.
This is Starbucks land, full of J. Crews and Sephoras in a maze of shops and restaurants you’ve already been to.
Those who enjoy the consistency of familiarity will be satisfied, but you’re not going to catch the authentic Greensboro flair over here.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 130
- Room options: King Singles, Queen Doubles, and suites for extra space and opulence
- Unique decor: sky murals, pine woodwork, brocade accents, plush cushions
- Amenities: soaking tubs, Bluetooth speakers, plush robes, HDTVs, coffee makers, mini-fridges
- Suite extras: dining areas, granite-topped wet bars, dedicated workspaces, guest bathrooms
- See each room in detail here
Room options are decidedly straightforward, but there’s plenty to keep everyone happy.
King Singles are perfect for solo travelers and snuggly couples, Queen Doubles are great for groups, and the suites are great for anyone wanting a slightly more opulent vacation.
The decor is delightful, particularly the sky murals on the bedroom ceilings, which might feel tacky if they weren’t paired with warm pine woodwork and furnishings.
Instead, there’s almost a touch of the western attitude to it all, set against rich brocade and plush cushions that bring it back to a classic luxury.
The bathrooms are stark black and white, and it all feels a tad disjointed, but in such a charming way that it’s hard to really care.
Whatever room you choose will include soaking tubs, Bluetooth speakers, plush robes, HDTVs, coffee makers and mini fridges.
Suites add the extra luxuries of dining areas, granite-topped wet bars, dedicated work areas, and some even include a guest bathroom.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining: Green Valley Grill with Mediterranean-inspired breakfast, brunch, and dinner; afternoon tea
- Outdoor charm: patio with trellis plants and wrought iron tables
- Events: regular events including Thursday jazz nights
- Facilities: small swimming pool and 24/7 fitness center; hotel bikes for local trails
The food and facilities match the classic upscale of it all.
Dining happens at the Green Valley Grill, open for breakfast, dinner, weekend brunch, and a scrumptious afternoon tea.
The fare leans Mediterranean, with plenty of local charm, and a wood-fired grill that is put to great use.
The space is lovely, with a darling outside patio coated in drooping trellis plants and cute wrought iron tables.
There are regular events, including a jazz night every Thursday.
Other facilities include a small swimming pool, not much for laps, but nice for a dip.
The fitness center is open 24/7, and hotel bikes are available for you to get on Greensboro’s famous trails.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Shopping-centered location: at Friendly Center Shopping Village
- Nearby entertainment: Regal Cinema and strip mall dining
- Green spaces: Botanical Garden, Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, Lake Daniel Greenway
- Downtown attractions: UNC Campus, Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro History Museum (~10 min drive)
- Family activities: Science Center and aquarium (~15 min drive)
We’ve already conducted our minor roast of the locale, but we should emphasize that, if you want to stay next to a shopping mall, this is a great place.
There are stores all around; you won’t have to be mad if you forget anything, or need to last-minute pick up a dress for an event.
The Regal Cinema is in walking distance, we highly recommend you catch a showing.
And the rest of Midtown, Greensboro, once you branch out from the mall, has its own charm.
It’s still a bit strip mall-y, but there are more local businesses scattered around the area near Battleground Ave.
You’ll find some decent restaurants, a barbecue joint, and a cocktail bar or two.
If you’re wanting some green space, that’s not hard either. The Botanical Garden and Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden are easy drives, and it’s easy to connect to the Lake Daniel Greenway.
We definitely recommend taking a jaunt Downtown to check out the UNC Campus and what is a fairly attractive city center.
The Weatherspoon Art Museum and the Greensboro History Museum are both great places to start. They’re roughly a 10-minute drive from the hotel.
People with kids (inside or with them) might want to go further. The Science Center is about a 15-minute drive away, where they have nice exhibits and an aquarium.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?

Some things guests didn’t like:
”Maybe pancakes on the brunch menu for children….”
