We’re back in post-industrial Maine, where the small, lively city of Biddeford boasts one of the area’s most charming boutique hotels.
The Lincoln is set in yet another gorgeous, red-brick mill building that has been repurposed to not only a hotel but also a new highlight of Biddeford’s understated but top-notch bar scene.
The city itself is worth a short visit, packed to the brim with culture, history, and excellent cuisine. It sits between Portland and Kittery in the heart of the Southern Maine coast.
Beyond the appealing location, the hotel itself offers a relaxing balance of hip, casual, and elegant.
It benefits from a lack of competition, for sure, but even if there were a million hotels in the city, this would still be a place to see and be seen.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining options: Lobby café, Lobby Bar, and Batson River Brewing onsite.
- Drink & relax: Art-deco bar with plush armchairs and industrial accents.
- Fitness: Impact Fitness with spin studio and full gym equipment.
- Extras: Seasonal rooftop pool with city views.
You’ve got multiple options for dinner and drinks without even leaving the hotel.
Spinning Jenny’s is the lobby café, well-stocked with grab-and-go options and coffees. Biddeford has enough breakfast spots that we’d recommend you explore a bit, but in a Maine winter, sometimes you just want to stay indoors.
The Lobby Bar is an art-deco inspired spot that will make you feel seriously lavish, with plush armchairs in peacock blues.
The industrial elements are muted but still there, adding an appealing edge to the entire effect.
The building is huge, and the hotel shares space with Batson River Brewing and Distilling, meaning you’ve got a high-class hangout right down the hallway. Enjoy fresh brews and high-end pub fare without leaving the property.
Our more active readers will be happy to hear about the other building-mate, Impact Fitness. There you can enjoy a complete gym experience with a full spin studio and weight room.
Or, just pop upstairs to the seasonal rooftop pool, which is a lovely place to check out the view and watch the sun set.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Great base: Short drive to Portland and Kittery, with Amtrak access nearby.
- Walkable: Cafés, boutiques, breweries, and red-brick architecture.
- Cultural options: Engine gallery, local breweries, lively food scene.
Biddeford is not a typical vacation spot, but as a cute town just a short drive to Portland, it is an excellent choice.
You’ll even be walking distance to the Amtrak Downeaster, a scenic little train that connects Boston to the Midcoast.
The city is walkable, streets lined with cute cafes, small boutiques, and independent businesses. Most everything is the same red brick as the hotel, a monument to the industrial history of the area.
Beer lovers have multiple local options, with a lively brewery scene started by Banded Brewing. The brewpub is housed in another old factory less than ten minutes from the hotel.
Arts and culture lovers can check out Engine gallery, a contemporary artspace on par with any other gallery in the state.
Food is the real king here, however, with a surprisingly extensive variety of restaurants. Bagels, Banh Mi, American breakfast, tacos, whatever strikes your fancy, you can find.
