- Multiple dining options: four restaurants & bars including fine dining, patisserie, and champagne bar.
- Full-service extras: spa, gym, 24-hr room service, and dog-friendly policies.
One of our favorite cities, Charleston, South Carolina, is lucky enough to have two of the USA’s very best boutique hotels – the smaller, more intimate, Spectator Hotel, and this one here, the very grand, also award-winning, Hotel Bennett.
On the large side for a boutique hotel, it has 179 luxurious rooms and suites, and lots of lovely common space including a rooftop terrace with swimming pool, four drinking and dining venues, and a small spa and gym.

They all come with comfortable king-size, or double queen, beds, sofas, work desks, cable TVs and coffee makers, high-tech controls for lighting and curtains, and 24-hour room service.
Some, as mentioned, also have balconies and they all have quite wonderful bathrooms with designer soaking tubs.

What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Fine dining: Gabrielle restaurant with terrace overlooking Marion Square.
- Multiple bars: champagne lounge, rooftop pool bar, and lively lobby bar.
- European-style patisserie: coffee, croissants, and pastries.
- Wellness & fitness: spa treatments (in-room option) and 24-hr gym.
- Pet friendly: dogs up to 25 lbs, max two per room.
Their signature restaurant is Gabrielle, a sophisticated fine dining venue which has a lovely outdoor terrace overlooking Marion Square. It also has a stylish, lively bar.
The menu lies somewhere between Southern U.S. and European, particularly French. Lots of great fresh seafood too.
The Patisserie serves a range of coffee and has a European vibe, croissants and all. Fiat Lux by the swimming pool is a sleek rooftop cocktail bar with a broad wine list and also does small bites and snacks – club sandwiches, salads, cheese & charcuterie boards etc.
Then there is the swanky Camellia champagne bar with its mirrored ceilings and pink marble floors and table tops.
Other facilities include a gym, open 24 hours, and a spa, with spa treatments and massages etc. also available in your own room.
Room service is 24 hours and you can also order off the menu from Gabrielle for room delivery but only until 10pm when the kitchen closes.
Hotel Bennett is pet friendly but only for dogs of 25 lbs or less, max. of two dogs per room and, to quote the hotel; ”they must be fully trained and kept on a leash at all times.”
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Central location: at Marion Square, right by King Street.
- Vibrant scene: festivals, farmer’s markets, restaurants & cocktail bars nearby.
- Shopping & culture: art galleries, boutiques, and Charleston’s trendy spots.
We have no complaints about the location. The Bennett stands where Marion Square meets Charleston’s main drag, King Street.
The square hosts many local festivals and farmer’s markets etc. and King Street is the beating heart of the city.
You’ll find most of its trendiest bars near here, places like The Belmont, Proof and Victor Social Club, restaurants including Hall’s Chophouse, The Ordinary and The Grocery, plus art galleries and boutique stores.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Everything at Hotel Bennett was beyond exceptional. From the staff, to the rooms, to the restaurants/bakery, you honestly couldn’t ask for anything more. The hotel itself was absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to come back to Hotel Bennett…..”
“The property is just GORGEOUS, they have a lot of options for food on the property and I found it to be in the best location. So happy I chose this hotel it was one of my favorite hotel stays ever!…..”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”We paid for the Kingsman Club which we liked very much – it is an upgrade for food and drinks in a private area served from 7:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m. They were short staffed for one of the days and some of the food was empty and not replenished. Could not get drinks served. That was annoying since you pay quite a bit extra for that service….”
”Valet for 1 night is $42. There are very few pool lounge chairs however, having a pool available in downtown Charleston is a PLUS. Overall, not worth $900/night….”
