What is a Boutique Hotel?
According to the Oxford Dictionary, a boutique hotel is ‘a small stylish hotel, typically one situated in a fashionable urban location.’
So what is and isn’t a boutique hotel is open to a certain degree of interpretation, but for us, a boutique hotel should be relatively small and intimate: with very few exceptions, all hotels we list will have 150 rooms or less, and the majority will have under 100.
It also should have a unique, unhomogenized character, a character which should somewhat complement the local neighborhood vibe. A good boutique hotel for us will be known for its attention to detail, too, from the design and decor to the personalized services offered to guests.
What We Do:
It’s impossible to estimate how many hotels in the world can be considered ’boutique’, whether they market themselves as such or not. Our project is certainly not to list them all in any case.
It is to find, report, and list only the very best of them in each geographical location. We update all these lists on an annual basis.
