This Richmond boutique hotel occupies a 1912 Classical Revival building with a beautifully preserved facade and an interior that serves as a testament to local artistry.
You’ve got your wrought iron, your century-old friezes and, of course, wall murals designed by local tattoo artists.
They’ve shown real respect to the building and a nice understanding of how to delicately apply street style to an upscale space.
Inside the rooms, you’re mostly looking at lovely, framed prints and paintings. Big, eye-catching pieces are used sparingly.
The rest of the decor could perhaps do with a little more youthfulness, but you can tell it’s trying to blend into the artwork.
We love that it’s not your average historic hotel, but if you’re a real sucker for antiques and damask and art deco interiors, we’ll send you elsewhere.
What are the rooms like?
- Suite types: Studio, One- and Two-bedroom suites, Homey Suites with kitchenettes.
- Size & layout: Studios ~500 sq ft; One- and Two-bedroom suites and Homey Suites offer more space.
- Decor: Simple and stylish with bright blues, cooling grays, whites, and wooden furnishings.
- Amenities: Working areas, seating areas, microwaves, mini fridges, HDTVs, and marble bathrooms.

It’s a suites-only establishment, more or less. The less is the Studio Suites, which are basically just 500 square foot hotel rooms.
So, a check next to the spacious category. The next offerings are One- and Two-bedroom suites with even more room, and finally, full-on kitchenette-sporting Homey Suites.
All rooms have either one king mattress or two queens in the main bedroom, so it shouldn’t be hard to find something that fits your party.
The decor is simple; if you wanted something endlessly Instagrammable, it might not do.
But it’s a nice simple. Walls are solid yet noticeable, with bright blues and cooling grays next to white and wooden furnishings.
As often happens, the zhuzh of it all increases as you go up in size and price.
Whatever you choose, you’ll have working areas, seating areas, microwaves, mini fridges, HDTVs, and lovely marble bathrooms.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- On-site dining: Rueger’s restaurant serving locally-influenced breakfast and dinner.
- Local flavors: Southern comfort foods with fresh local ingredients and moonshine-focused drinks menu.
- Other facilities: 24-hour mercantile, fitness center, and business center.
Rueger’s, the onsite restaurant, offers locally-influenced goodies for breakfast and dinner.
You can go light or all-in on the Southern, with a menu that will smother fried chicken in gravy at the same time that it’s putting local apples on a goat cheese salad.
The drinks menu is a definite highlight, with a focus on local (commercially available! publicly advertised! not homemade!) moonshines.
Besides the restaurant, there’s a 24-hour mercantile where you can pick up any snacks or other goodies.
It’s good for an easy breakfast if you’re not a sit-down type.
If you like to keep up with your exercise regime, you’ve got a 24/7 fitness center at your disposal. The business center, as well, is available anytime you need it.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Downtown location: Across from the State Capitol, ideal for history enthusiasts.
- Museum District: 8-minute drive for art, science, and broader history.
- Outdoor options: Maymont, Hollywood Cemetery walks, William Byrd Park.
- Shopping & dining: Carytown area, less than 10 minutes away, accessible by transit or car.
The hotel is right Downtown, across from the State Capitol.
It’s a great place for history, especially if you’re a Civil War buff.
Fair warning: many of the historical houses and spaces are connected to the Confederacy and the state’s history with slavery.
It won’t be, like, a super fun historical tour.
If you’d rather avoid Lee’s former mansion or the old Confederate White House, just head west towards the Museum District.
Here, you get art, you get science, and you get more wide-ranging history as well. It’s an 8-minute drive from the hotel.
For those who prefer to stay outdoors, Maymont is another 8-minute drive. If you want to head out on foot, at least half of the hour-long walk is through the gorgeous Hollywood Cemetery.
William Byrd Park offers more than just a quiet walk, great if you’ve got little ones with you. You’ll find a nature center, a farm, and more.
The coffee and shopping, and drinks crowd can head to Carytown. It is, once again, less than 10 minutes from the hotel, but it is a bit of a trek on foot.
We’d recommend grabbing public transit or a Lyft so you can enjoy a couple of drinks at one of the many cute restaurants.
