This historic hotel in Downtown Richmond is for anyone wanting their vacation upscale-vintage-cozy.
It’s a set of mid-19th-century town houses that have undergone varying levels of renovation and renewal, enough to make a good number of posh rooms and suites ready for modern guests.
The collection of buildings forms a courtyard-ish space tucked behind a brick wall, where a couple of towering trees create the perfect amount of shade.
Common areas have plenty of windows, making for a bright, welcoming space.
The furnishings are definitely a mix of antique and contemporary, but all the newer pieces fit nicely into the inn’s atmosphere.
We especially like the porch-y walkways, enclosed in white railings that we don’t want to call motel-y but are essentially the same idea.
But, like, it’s a good idea, and if there’s anything we were definitely going to love, it was a posh, brick-built motel that’s actually an inn.
The main draw here is plenty of historic charm with modern amenities and plenty of open space, ready to introduce you to Richmond in style.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 70
- Room styles: Main House Rooms, Garden Rooms, Parlour Suites
- Decor: Victorian and Empire antiques with patterned wallpaper and creamy tones
- Room types: Queen Singles, Queen Doubles, Kings, and plush suites
- Amenities: Climate control, TVs, Keurig machines, mini fridges, microwaves on request
- See each room in detail here
In the rooms and suites, you’ll find even more antique luxury, from the Victorian and Empire antiques to the elegantly patterned wallpaper.
They’re a kind of creamy set of whites and tans with touches of gray and blue.
Nothing is too matchy-matchy, which gives it a genuine feel, like some rich family down on its luck has just vacated the space, all set to rent out the rooms.
Rooms start at Queen singles, with Queen Double options and Kings as well.
Essentially, though, the room types are mostly connected to location.
Main House Rooms are in (this might shock you) the main house. Garden Rooms are nestled next to the Carriage House, and Parlour Suites have veranda access.
The suites are definitely the most plush, with fireplaces as decorative elements, antiques from the original buildings, and tall ceilings with giant windows to match.
Whatever you choose, you’ll have all the modern touches like individual climate control, TVs, Keurig machines, and mini fridges and microwaves available on request.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining: No on-site food options currently
- Nearby options: Plenty of breakfast and dining spots within walking distance
- Outdoor space: Garden Courtyard perfect for picnics or relaxing
- Fitness: Day passes to YMCA gym available a block away
Not a lot of facilities here, and our biggest complaint is the lack of food on-site.
We know they advertise as an inn, rather than a B&B, but we still aren’t a fan of an inn without even a half-assed continental.
Yet, here we are, though you are also surrounded by plenty of spots to catch a good breakfast out.
Ask for a mini fridge, and you could even try and wrangle a cheeky picnic in the Garden Courtyard.
It’s a lovely space, just great for lazing around in when the Virginia weather’s good.
If you’d rather be more active, you can snag a day pass to the YMCA gym just a block away.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Downtown location: Very central, easy access to attractions
- Historic sites: State Capitol, Lee’s Mansion, Confederate White House within 15-minute walk
- Culture & education: VCU and Contemporary Art Institute nearby
- Museums: Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Science Museum, Virginia Museum of History & Culture
- Parks & nature: Maymont, William Byrd Park, Mount Calvary and Hollywood Cemeteries
If you want to be in the very center of Richmond, this is the place to be. In our opinion, it’s one of the top spots for a hotel downtown.
You won’t be slapped in the face with local history, but it’s easy to get to. The State Capitol, Lee’s Mansion and the Confederate White House are a 15-minute walk away.
If you’d rather check out more contemporary culture, you’ll be walking distance to VCU, and it’s Contemporary Art Institute.
You’re also super close to the Greater Richmond Convention Center and the Maggie L Walker National Historic Site.
You’re also slightly closer to the city’s Museum District. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is still a 45-minute walk, so you might want to snag a ride. It’s just a 9-minute drive.
And it’s not just art, you’ll find the Science Museum and the Virginia Museum of History & Culture as well.
Or stay outdoors and check out Maymont. It’s another 10 minutes from the inn, but once there, you’ll have hours of wandering to do.
You can hand out in William Byrd Park, or just enjoy some quiet walks through the Mount Calvary and Hollywood Cemeteries.
