TL;DR
- Laid-back charm: Historic property with focus on grounds over frills.
- Unique structures: Collection of buildings including tavern, inn, and country store.
- Simple comfort: Good middle ground between luxury and basic accommodations.
- Nearby options: Luxury seekers might prefer Woodstock Inn.

If you’re looking for a Vermont vacation, Woodstock is an excellent target, and this boutique hotel can offer a nicely laid-back time in the heart of the state.
Many nearby hotels have either dialed the luxury up to an all-inclusive, prix-fixe dinner kind, or offer beds and a shower and not much else.
We find Kedron Valley Inn is a nice middle ground, a gorgeous historical property with more focus on the charming grounds than on the extra frills.
It features a collection of buildings constructed, damaged, renovated, and added to throughout the past two centuries, including a tavern and inn, a country store, and a meeting area.
Kedron Valley Inn’s price tag though could maybe better reflect more limited amenities. And if pampering luxury is more your bag we’d recommend you splurge on the nearby Woodstock Inn.
However, if you enjoy more simple comforts and the freedom of laid-back accommodation with a little personality, we think this might be the place.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 15 rooms in historic building and Log Lodge.
- Room styles: King, Queen, Doubles, and Suites with varied amenities.
- Amenities: Mini-fridges, fireplaces, writing desks, comfortable seating, some pet-friendly.
- See each room in detail here
Rooms have a lot of space for a historic building, and you’ll have a comfortable seating area in all but the Queen Doubles.
The Doubles can be found in the Log Lodge, along with King rooms and Suites, while the main historic building features King and Queen rooms.
The general decor is historical in theme, if not in accuracy, with gorgeous four-poster beds and stylish antiques.
It’s nothing uniquely breathtaking, but offers well-executed classic comfort.
Crisp whites, rich woods and accents of bold color or patterns work well together well, and the exposed beams and log cabin walls give a nice rustic charm.
Each room is slightly different, with mixed amenities like writing desks, mini-fridges, fireplaces, and more.
The Log Lodge is pet-friendly, but not the historic building it seems.
To quote a previous guest:
The pet friendly rooms are in the log lodge building and the fee is $20/day. Please note that we do not allow pets to be unattended for long periods of time.
We’d say contact the hotel directly if traveling with a pet.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining: The Ransom Tavern and Country Store Café.
- Cuisine: Soups, salads, pizzas, sandwiches, pastries, and coffee.
- Facilities & activities: Rails for hiking and snowmobiling, pond for swimming, free parking.
The award-winning onsite restaurant, The Ransom Tavern, is a lovely slice of rural Neo-Neapolitan, offering lovely soups, salads, and fantastic pizzas.
They’re open Wednesday through Saturday, and it’s a place you can easily visit more than once.
Other than dinner, the Country Store Café is the place to go. They offer classic café fare like pastries and coffee, as well as a menu of sandwiches and wraps for breakfast and lunch.
We might recommend stocking your mini-fridge with breakfast snacks and enjoying your morning on the porch, gazing out to the grounds.
You’ll have access to miles of rails used for riding, hiking and snowmobiles in the winter. In the summer, the gorgeous pond is the perfect place to cool off or warm up, jumping off the dock or lounging on the beach.
For more exploration you’ll want to drive, made easy by free and convenient parking options.

Woodstock provides a quintessential Vermont vacation. You’ll be in a pleasant village with many opportunities to explore the local landscape, but also some good, old-fashioned tourism.
There are cafés, and restaurants to enjoy, as well as a small theater, and a cocktail bar that demands a visit.
Right outside the village is the Billings Farm & Museum, where you can learn about the local dairy farms, and hopefully try some sharp cheddar.
If you’re more of an outside wanderer, the Ottauquechee River is for you. It runs through the middle of town, with a sweet riverside trail, and is even crossed by one of the New England’s famed covered bridges.
You can find other trails in every direction, including an easy one around the Billing’s farmland and more in the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park.
Hanover, NH and the Green Mountain National Forest are also worth the easy, half hour drive.
Hanover has a small regional airport, and Burlington International is an hour and half drive away.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?

“Property was beautiful & quaint, very peaceful! Wonderful swimming pond with small beach & a tavern/bar on premises with excellent food & drinks!….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
” didn’t like that you were unable to stand at the bar. You either had to sit, or leave the room. And there were limited options to sit. My son was also locked out of his room on Monday (code was changed) and he was unable to reach anyone at the inn until late. It was very inconvenient. …..”
”The availability of meals was quite limited. There was no breakfast available at the Inn and the dining room was only open for dinner Wednesday-Saturday. It is primarily a pizza and salad restaurant, and, quite busy….”
