When we say ‘hidden gem,’ you might roll your eyes at the cliché, but it remains the best way to describe this Weston, Vermont boutique hotel.
We didn’t make the rules, we just know that this place is a) in the middle of nowhere and b) totally worth the drive.
The entire experience is a perfect combination of small rural town, surrounding forests and the absolute charm of the hotel.
It occupies a gleaming white house off of Main Street, both unassuming and elegant at the same time.
Once inside, you’ll be in the middle of an absolutely timeless space from the hospitality experts behind New York’s Carlyle and LA’s Beverly Wilshire Hotels.
It may be a surprise that they’ve moved from these urban behemoths to an 8-room property in the middle of the woods, but it’s a nice surprise.
There’s a hint of novelty at the big-time luxury and unabashed elegance in such a quaint place. The hotel restaurant, for example, is one-of-a-kind for the area. In the end, however, it works perfectly.
Once you’re in your bathrobe, pulling buttery flakes off of perfectly baked croissants that were brought to your room, we think you’ll agree.

The building was formerly a hotel, and therefore well-suited to hospitality, but it is an older building, and therefore each room is unique.
The five guestrooms occupy different areas of the house, with different features that inform the decor. Room Two, for example, has a brick fireplace converted to gas, beautifully set off by deep green textiles and reddish woods.
Decor comes from far and wide, with Turkish carpets, English antiques, and some gorgeous Chinoiserie. Some reportedly comes from the family’s own collection.
Suites are located in outbuildings, for example the carriage house, which hosts a two-bedroom affair with ornate king beds spread between two floors.
It has a private deck for some outside time, and is one of the four dog-friendly accommodations on the property.
Bathrooms are recently renovated, and decked out with all modern amenities. Suite Eight features rainfall showers and lovely tub, if long soaks are an essential part of your vacation.
But really, besides obvious limitations like the number of guests, there’s no room where the top-notch furnishings and service won’t make you feel perfectly at home.

Note: We chose to put The Weston in our Adults Only (as opposed to Family Friendly) category though children 12 and up are allowed to stay.
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Restaurant: The Left Bank offers restaurant-style, gourmet meals for guests and locals.
- Variety: Menu features diverse dishes all executed to perfection.
- Room service: Available for suites and some rooms with dining areas.
- Spa & fitness: On-site spa, cardio/weight room, yoga/pilates studio, massage parlor, and sauna.
This is no mom-and-pop New England B&B. Dining is restaurant-style, gourmet, and popular with guests and locals alike.
The main restaurant, The Left Bank, is refreshing in that there’s no particular inspiration, no claims to be ‘Mediterranean’ or ‘French bistro.’
It is quite clear that the main focus is to make excellent food with excellent ingredients and great flavors.
This means that if you find mac and cheese alongside bouillabaisse, all you need to know is that they’re both done to perfection.
Room service is an excellent choice for anyone in a suite, and some rooms have areas for dining as well.
The concierge service is especially helpful in helping choose a room that fits your needs, we recommend you take full advantage.
You’ll also have access to an on-site spa, which is small, but packs quite a punch. There’s a cardio/weight room suited for one or two people, a small yoga/pilates room, a massage parlor, and a sauna available for guests.
There’s been no attempt to hide the ‘house-ness’ of the space, making the entire experience feel intimate and super-indulgent, like you invited a professional masseuse into your home.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Quaint town: Weston features a single road with country stores, cafés, and art galleries.
- Natural beauty: Green Mountain National Forest, West River swimming holes, and scenic drives.
- Nearby towns: Brattleboro and Woodstock under an hour away for more civilization.
- Transportation: Closest international airport in Burlington, several regional airports nearby.
Weston is one of those Vermont towns you see on postcards. The single road lined with at least one country store, a post office, a particularly friendly church, and one of those art gallery/café combos that should be kitschy but somehow isn’t.
It’s partly because the barista has a septum piercing and Bikini Kill is playing and the owner, or maybe her girlfriend, is baking cinnamon rolls and maybe also making jewelry?
Add the wide expanse of windy mountain roads through Green Mountain National Forest and a litany of swimming holes off of West River, and that’s Vermont for you.
The one downside is that it’s definitely a car-having kind of place, and you’ll be driving a lot.
The upside is that driving in this part of the country is at least half of the fun. Summer is blindingly green, Spring is infectious, and Autumn absolutely breathtaking. Long-distance cyclists will have a ball around here.
There aren’t many big towns nearby, but both Brattleboro and Woodstock are under an hour, and nice places to see a bit more civilization.
There are a handful of regional airports not too far, while the closest international airport will be in Burlington.
