This Downtown Houston hotel has all the stately luxury you could ever ask for.
It feels like the fairytale version of ‘fancy hotel,’ if fancy hotels showed up often in fairy tales. The Princess Diaries, maybe.
If you’d like to get your true Genovian fantasy going, this is the place.
The hotel was built in 1926, and it’s retained the elegance of the time. After extensive (and expensive) renovations in the late 2010s, it has the added benefit of top-notch amenities.
You’ll be staying in the Theater District, with no shortage of events to dress up for.
It’s a building that calls for glamorous photos, and the interior is just as picturesque.
Think marble, think columns, think of the romantic elegance of the 20s meeting Texas grandiosity.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 93 total
- Modern design: — sleek grays and calming blues
- Spacious options: — Deluxe Rooms over 400 sq ft

- See each room in detail here
Their average guest rooms don’t have quite the flair of the rest of the building, but they’re sleek and modern.
We’re talking lots of easy grays and calming blues, clearly designed for consistency over personality.
It fits the attitude of the hotel very well, yet if you like a funky headboard and some wall murals, this won’t be for you.
Rooms range from Petite King Singles, slightly over 230 square feet, to Queen Doubles, with deluxe options and some on the Penthouse floor.
Deluxe Rooms are all over 400 square feet, a great choice for those who like to spread out.
Suites have a lot more personality, and are among the best accommodations in the city.
They feel very much like gorgeous apartments, some with full bookcases, others luxurious bathtubs, others arched windows that look out onto the city.
Whatever you choose, there is a host of well-chosen amenities. You’ll have free in-room snacks and beverages, a Nespresso machine, Carrera marble, Frette linens, mini fridges, and HDTVs.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Welcome extras: — champagne on arrival and gourmet breakfast
- Dining: — onsite Cultivated F+B restaurant and afternoon tea
- Art-filled: — contemporary collection in common areas
- Fitness: — Peloton room plus pass to a full-service gym
And it’s not just the rooms where you’ll feel pampered.
From the welcome glass of champagne to the gourmet breakfast buffet each morning, the hotel has clearly set out to take good care of its guests.
The onsite restaurant is called Cultivated F+B, a New American fine dining establishment with a bar, room service, and a super-posh afternoon tea.
Common areas are adorned with an impressive collection of contemporary art, giving the otherwise historical luxury a fresh, lively atmosphere.
The Peloton fitness room is great if you love Peloton, but we particularly love that the hotel has made arrangements for those with other preferences.
Your stay includes a pass to a nearby full-service fitness center.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Theater District: — cultural events and performances minutes away
- Downtown highlights: — Bayou Place, Buffalo Bayou, and local parks
- Nearby arts: — Menil Collection, Rothko Chapel, Museum Park
- Day trips: — Houston Zoo, Hermann Park, and NASA’s Space Center
The hotel is beautifully situated in Downtown Houston, near the Theater District. This means you have plenty of cultural events just minutes away.
Bayou Place, a music-event-mall complex, is faster on foot than it is by car, while the cluster of small theaters around the Grand Opera is 5 minutes either way.
The rest of Downtown is at your fingertips. There are many parks, and the lovely, wildlife-happy waterfront by Buffalo Bayou.
With so much going on, it’s not hard to find a cute bar or a decent restaurant, though you’ll really want to explore the rest of Houston’s extensive food scene.
Almost any type of cuisine will be well-represented here. Check with the hotel concierge for recommendations.
Most of the hip revelry is happening over in Montrose, a 10-minute drive from the hotel. We urge all art fans to visit the Menil Collection and the Rothko Chapel.
For more cultural highlights, Museum Park is the place. It’s also about 10 minutes from the hotel and holds most of Houston’s impressive assortment of top-notch museums.
We’re talking the Museum of Fine Art Houston, the Natural Science Museum, the Museum of African American Culture, and the Museum of Contemporary Craft, among others.
Head just a bit further south, and you’ll find the Houston Zoo and Hermann Park. They’re excellent for kids, but we wouldn’t expect adults to complain much either.
Those looking for day trips can drive about half an hour towards Galveston to Space Center Houston.
It’s quite big; there’s enough NASA there to keep even the most casual space fan busy for hours.
