This Victorian-era hotel in the heart of Galveston’s Historic District is your best bet for some classic Southern luxury.
Part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, The Tremont House occupies a 1879 building formerly concerned with dry goods, transformed into a hotel in the 1980s.
Before that, however, the Tremont House was an established hotel with horrible luck. Two former buildings succumbed to a fire and a hurricane each.
In the new location, you can relax on the Mascioni linens under gorgeous molding in the historic annex of the hotel.
Other spaces are completely new, but still hold the stately elegance of the original architecture.
It means that you’re deep into the history of the city, but still happily immersed in contemporary comforts.

Galveston is a tourism-heavy city known for the beaches, but that’s not all that we’ve got here.
You’ll be in the heart of the historical area, about a 7-minute walk from The Strand, where you can find a cluster of historical buildings.
Wander to and from the water, or head in the other direction, towards the Railroad Museum and the Port of Galveston. It’s less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
Along the port by the Galveston Channel, you’ll find excellent ship watching, the fascinating Elissa Tall Ship, and the Ocean Star Oil Rig Museum.
If you can snag a ferry over the Channel to Seawolf Park, there’s a landlocked submarine your nerdier kids will adore.
If you’d rather be spending time on the sand, head south through the city. It’s a 40-minute walk or a 5-minute drive over to the Galveston Jetty, where you’ll find Stewart and Porretto beaches.
They’re not world-class, but there’s a laid-back, fun, island-y vibe to the city that makes it easy to enjoy yourself.
If you’d rather somewhere more remote, it’s a 10-minute drive to East Beach, where you’ll also find some easy walks around the East Island Lagoon Nature Preserve.
If you’ve the kids in tow, check out Moody Gardens amusement park.
Food and drink is easy to find; we recommend checking with the hotel for recommendations. The friendly staff will be happy to help.
