TL;DR
- Historic saloon: Built in 1907, still packed with Wild West charm.
- Celebrity icon: Chuck Norris once stayed here, so the story goes.
- Modern comforts: Renovated but still true to its cowboy roots.
- Prime location: Right in the middle of Fort Worth’s Stockyards.

If you came to Fort Worth for the cowboy of it all, this hotel in the midst of the famous Stockyards is the place to be.
Set in a National Historic Register-approved ex-saloon built in 1907, the property has welcomed guests for over a century.
According to local lore, even Chuck Norris has waited in one of their old-timey suites.
There have been plenty of renovations over the years though, and Stockyards has all the modern comforts you might need.
The antique brick, however, still holds that Wild West charm.
Set as it is in the heart of the Stockyards, there’s much more where that came from.
What are the rooms like?
- Total rooms: 52 in a mix of Standards, Outlaws, Doubles and Suites.
- Standards: Compact but stylish with beams, leather, and seating area.
- Outlaws: More space, like adding a living room to the Standard.
- Suites: Feel like small apartments, some with patios and hot tubs.
- See each room in detail here
To be honest, we kinda like the Standard Rooms as much as their more expensive deluxe ‘Outlaw’ Rooms.
They’re smaller, sure, but the accent walls, exposed beams and leather all work together quite well. There’s still room for a small seating area.
Outlaw rooms are roomier though, like if you popped a living room onto one of the Standards.
There are a few Double Doubles as well, for budget-conscious groups, platonic friends or families.
Suites have more variety, and most feel like posh little apartments, like you’ve just rolled into town on your horse, Tucker, and rented a room above the bar.
All accommodation options feature coffee makers, radios, HDTVs, and individual climate control.
Suites include extra amenities like writing desks, bathtubs, patios with hot tubs, half baths, and more.
As the rooms are somewhat basic, anyone who likes a lot of bells and whistles will want to upgrade.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- On-site dining: H3 Ranch for barbecue and Tex-Mex.
- Saloon vibes: Booger Red’s with tequila and casual Texas fare.
- Events: Meeting and catering spaces, but not many big-hotel extras.
Within (adjacent to, technically) the hotel, we’re looking at H3 Ranch and Booger Red’s.
They’re two fascinating names we’re not entirely convinced should have made it through the marketing boards. On the other hand, everybody likes a good booger joke, no?
Moving on, you won’t be surprised to learn that H3 Ranch is here for all of your barbecue and Tex-Mex needs. It’s a solid addition to both of those categories, with breakfast on weekends.
Booger Red’s (the name’s growing on us, we won’t lie) is a saloon’s saloon, having appeared during the hotel’s 1984 renovation.
A favorite since, the bar features a large selection of excellent tequilas served along the same casual Texas staples as its sister restaurant.
The hotel lacks many modern larger hotel amenities, but there is catering, event and meeting spaces available.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Stockyards hub: Rodeos, cattle drives, breweries, and dance halls right outside.
- Museums: John Wayne, Cowgirl Museum, and major art museums nearby.
- Murals & music: Live shows and colorful street art across the city.
- Day trips: Arlington for sports or Mariano’s for the original frozen margarita.
We do recommend wandering the area as much as possible. You’ll find cattle pens, breweries, a John Wayne Museum, dance halls, and more.
Don’t miss the Friday night rodeo, and make sure to check with the concierge about any live music or line dancing. The twice-daily cattle run is also a don’t-miss.
If you’d like to check out the rest of the city, you’ll want to grab a car. The city has many, many murals, if you want to make an adventure out of finding them.
Fort Worth’s cultural district is a 15-minute drive, featuring the (cowboy-friendly) Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art and the Kimbell Art Museum.
You’ll also find arenas, theaters and unique spots like the Cowgirl Museum, Will Rogers Memorial Center, and the Casa Mañana Theatre.
Arlington, home to the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, and lots of Texas treats, just about half an hour towards Dallas.
If you’re not in the mood for a rowdy crowd of overenthusiastic sports fans, head to Mariano’s Hacienda Ranch to check out their frozen margaritas.
Allegedly they were the first to craft the beverage, and they deserve our thanks.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“I love that this very historical hotel located right on Main st. in the Fort Worth stockyards It has so much character & charm, & is so warm & cozy too! It’s very refreshing from the modern hotels we are used to stayingI at. I love the grand staircase in the lobby when you enter!, Its like out of an old western movie! The location is so perfect! Right across from a wonderful western style boutique called The Maverick; I love this store! it has both ladies & mens apparel, lots of fancy cowboy boots, interesting home goods, art & a huge bar! There is also a cattle drive on this street every day I believe; lots of fun bars a restaurants nearby, all within walking distance too!…”
“The property & location is wonderful. The facility is very clean. The decor is vintage and very pretty. Our room was spacious & comfortable. We enjoyed overlooking the main streets. We will definitely be back!…”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”The bath/shower could use some professional sprucing up. It looked like a handy man had attempted to do it. But this was not a deal breaker. 1 or both of the sofas in the lobby needs replacing. But I love that style! they have just seen their better days….”
”Hotel needs some upgrades and maintenance. We stayed there 8 years ago and it was a much different experience….”
