TL;DR
- Small & intimate: Just 21 rooms for a cozy stay
- Hip social vibe: Lively bar with locals and guests
- Modernist design: Unique architecture in a stark setting
- Best in the area: Coolest spot around the Cultural District
- Check prices here
If you want well away from the old western leather, cowhide and brick, this Cultural District boutique gem is the place to go.
First of all there’s a real intimacy here that only a small hotel can manage.
It’s also got a hip bar that can get busy with locals, guests and everything in between, but ultimately it’s just you and a score of others that get to stay the night.
The building is a pretty fantastic modernist creation in the middle of what feels like 90% parking lot. It makes for a Back to the Future kind of vibe.
It also means that the coolest place around is definitely this hotel. You’ll feel special, and in the know, sipping mezcal until midnight.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 21 total
- Budget choice: Full rooms ideal for solo travelers
- Stylish options: Kings, Deluxe, and a rare Suite
- Modern design: Clean lines with colorful Oaxacan textiles
- See each room in detail here
Budget-conscious solo travelers should snag themselves a Full room, a snug spot with all the typical room amenities but a slightly smaller bed.
Other rooms include King Singles with city views and deluxe options with sofa beds.
The single Suite is the spot for people who want to spread out, but it can be hard to book, and we wouldn’t fret if you can’t get your paws on it. Book a City View King and let the view do the talking.
The design is superb. Clean lines and pale wood reflect the easygoing modernity of the building, with clever cubbies in the bed frames and folding desks and chairs.
What might be minimalism is undercut with boldly patterned, handcrafted Oaxacan textiles and bright colors that make the rooms feel both youthful and sophisticated.
Each room also features curated works from local artists, smart TV, Bluetooth speakers, and mini fridge, and comfy robes.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Not facilities-heavy: Minimal onsite amenities
- Light offerings: Free lobby coffee and tea
- Bar Dryce: Handcrafted cocktails and regular events
It’s definitely not a facilities-heavy option, if you want to find everything you need at your hotel, we recommend looking elsewhere.
With no onsite restaurant, you’ll have to rely on the complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby to wake you up.
The place to hang out, obviously, is Bar Dryce. It’s as hip as the rest of the space, with gorgeous handcrafted cocktails and regular events.
These range from pop-ups to spinning vinyl; the bar also has most of the Texas-themed touches you’ll find on the property.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Cultural hotspot: Surrounded by major museums
- Stockyards fun: Rodeos, cattle runs, and Honkytonks
- Best explored by car: Easy to get around Fort Worth
- Sports nearby: Arlington for Rangers & Cowboys
Once you’re out of the Twilight Zone, you’re in Fort Worth’s Cultural District.
There are a handful of neat places to find nearby, from greasy spoons to cozy pubs.
The main appeal, however, are the cultural institutions.
You’ll be near the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art and the Kimbell Art Museum to make a line starting just a 7-minute walk down the boulevard.
Other highlights are the Cowgirl Museum, Will Rogers Memorial Center, and the Casa Mañana Theatre.
And, there are show barns and sheep pens, not on the same level as the Stockyards, but still a fun adventure.
Over near the Northside are the big kid Stockyards. It’s a 15-minute drive, and we’d recommend heading out for the Friday night rodeo, or one of the twice-daily cattle runs.
It’s also the perfect place for Honkytonk live music and dancing.
You’ll probably want to have a car to zoom around in, through a city with bunches of murals and plenty of cute places to explore.
Nearby Arlington is the home to the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. You can also snag some excellent Tex-Mex and all the margaritas a girl could ask for.
