TL;DR
- Old West luxury in the heart of Fort Worth’s Stockyards
- Big Texas vibe with neon cowboys, fountains, and statues
- Unique property that balances playful kitsch with upscale comfort

This sprawling hotel on Mule Alley in the Stockyards of Fort Worth is cowboy-flavored indulgence at its finest.
Hotel Drover is a bit big for our standards, but the location is perfection and the property unique enough that we didn’t want to leave it out.
We, it must be admitted, are real suckers for neons, especially in cool shapes.
And there’s something, isn’t there, about a neon cowboy that makes the grand romance of the American West feel like it might just be real.
It’s big, Texas luxury, with a fountain outside the imposing entrance and a veritable oasis in the back.
For many, Stockyard and its cowboy paradise spirit might approach tacky, but Hotel Drover is nothing if not a luxury hotel.
Sure, you might want to turn the number of cowboy and cactus statues into a drinking game, but you’ll be doing so with the top-shelf stuff.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 200
- Standard rooms with Texan touches like leather and wood headboards
- Options galore including patios, bunk beds, soaking tubs
- Suites with unique styles, kitchens, or spa setups
- See each room in detail here
Rooms are actually a very slight letdown after the grand Texas-ness of the rest of the hotel.
They feel very much like standard hotel rooms, with a few (albeit gorgeous) thematic touches.
The leather and wood headboards are lovely, as is the locally-made furniture and the printed pillows, but it’s all put on a fairly dull base.
The one exception is the wood-beamed ceilings, which definitely elevate the space.
Options are many, King Singles with a variety of amendments, including patios, bunk beds, and soaking tubs.
Queen Doubles are available for those who don’t know how to have fun with a bunk bed.
Suites have miles more personality, each one with its own style, and many amenities that allow you to personalize your vacation.
Grab one with a kitchen if you prefer to cook yourself, snag a spa suite if you really just want to feel pampered.
Whatever you choose, you’ll have a TV, Bluetooth speaker, working area, mini fridge, Keurig machine and some kind of seating.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- 97 West restaurant with comfort food in style
- Backyard oasis with pool, open-air bar, and cabanas
- Lobby bar full of neon and cowboy vibes
- Fitness center, art collection, and library available
The main dining room is at 97 West, a bright, friendly restaurant steeped in Texas tradition. It’s a lot of comfort food done up in considerable style.
The giant backyard, where you can find the hotel pool, has an open-air bar where you can sit next to fake cactuses and sip on tequila.
The Lobby Bar is all neon and cowboy hats and even if you stay somewhere else is worth a visit just for the vibes.
If you’d prefer just to stay by the pool, there are private cabanas for rent, and a hot tub for the less oppressively warm months.
A fitness center is available for any guests who have an exercise routine that doesn’t involve cattle. The art collection and library are perfect for more culture-focused guests in Fort Worth for the Remingtons.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Stockyards location next to beer garden, dance halls, cattle pens
- Cultural District with museums, arenas, and theaters 15 minutes away
- Downtown murals and nightlife worth exploring
- Arlington nearby for sports stadiums and frozen margarita heritage
If you are here for Remingtons, you’ll want to head to the Cultural District.
Getting around the city is generally best done by car, which the hotel will be happy to help you out with.
The cultural district is a 15-minute drive, featuring the Amon Carter Museum of American Art (home of the horsey paintings), the Museum of Modern Art and the Kimbell Art Museum.
It also has a heavy helping of arenas, theaters and unique spots like the Cowgirl Museum, Will Rogers Memorial Center, and the Casa Mañana Theatre.
Before you head out, however, make sure to get your fill of the Stockyards. There’s a giant beer garden next door, cattle pens, a John Wayne Museum, dance halls, and more.
Make sure to stay for the Friday night rodeo, the twice-daily cattle run, or at least some live music or line dancing.
Downtown is worth a wander, though without much going on at night. There are murals throughout the city that can make for a great tour.
If you want to go a little further afield, check out Arlington, home to the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys.
They’re also the home of Mariano’s Hacienda Ranch, pioneer of the frozen margarita and national heroes.
