The Glidden House is a charmingly old-style boutique hotel in Cleveland’s University Circle, near the Case Western campus.
This is the spot for any culture-vores, in the perfect location for museum-going.
The house itself is on the National Register of Historic Places, a 1910 testament to an eclectic French Gothic style.
As you might imagine, the architecture is stunning, delicate, though also grand, all red brick, pale stone and multi-paned windows.
The interiors are modernized, though perhaps a bit too much for our taste.
We’re talking eclectic mixes of antiques and a cream/yellow/gold-red color scheme that works well in some areas and less well in others.
The overall effect, however, is everything you’d expect. You get all the wonder of a century-old building with the comfort of today.

Rooms have a stately air, with blues and beiges and whites. Not quite as romantic as we’d imagine, looking from the outside, but definitely clean and comfortable.
We like that it’s not too hip, securely on the side of classic luxury, like it was put together by Very Posh Grandmother who knows the proper use of gold accents and pastel upholstery.
Guest rooms come in Queen and King Singles, and Queen Doubles. As a historic building, none are exactly the same.
Deluxe King rooms have more in the way of architectural features, and Suites include seating areas and cute nooks and coffee tables and all the nice things.
All rooms include an HDTV, coffee machine, independent climate control, and a working area.
Certain selections include sofa beds, wet bars and microwaves.

You couldn’t get closer to the university unless you decided to stay in the dorms. And maybe not even then.
Anyone with business at the university will appreciate the location, but that’s not all it has to offer.
The Cleveland Museum of Art is a 5-minute walk, the Museum of Natural History just a bit further, and you’re on the edge of Wade Oval, where you can find the Cleveland Botanical Garden.
There are plenty of slightly-lesser-known museums nearby as well, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland and the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum.

You’ll find plenty of music between Downtown and University Circle as well.
Head east if you want to spend some time outside, where you’ll find Little Italy and Lakeview Cemetery.

Other, shorter trips might include a hike around Cuyahoga Valley National Park, just 20 minutes outside the city.

“Glidden House is a cozy and nice property located in the campus area. Rooms are spacious and very clean. The breakfast is varied and yummy. We had a very pleasant stay. A special thank to James, who is the gem of the Glodden House. His advise on Cleveland’s points of interest made our stay! Thanks James!…”

Some things guests didn’t like:
”The lights in the room are a bit too white to my taste. If the reading lights had warmer shade, that would make the room even cozier. Nothing major, though….”
