This apart-hotel in Downtown Cleveland is best suited for long stays, sure, but it’s worth looking at no matter how long you plan to stay.
It takes a good amount of thoughtful design for us to feature an apart-hotel, though we admit ROOST properties always have a bit of an advantage.
The Philadelphia-based brand has properties from Cleveland eastward, mostly concentrated in Pennsylvania.
They have a nice vibe of upscale yet hip, a modern East Coasty-take on luxury.
Beyond this, ROOST properties have an uncanny ability to occupy super-cool buildings.
This is no exception, with three floors of a stunning 1915 department store devoted to the hotel.
It’s an independent traveler’s dream; you’ll feel endlessly cool letting yourself into your deluxe apartment as if you own the place.
Whether it’s for a night or a few months, it really doesn’t matter.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 60
- Fresh interiors: with floor-to-ceiling windows (& blackout blinds)
- Fully equipped :kitchens, lounges with smart TVs & SONOS speakers
- In-unit laundry: and weekly cleaning service
- See each room in detail here
The building might be over a century old, but the apartments are super-fresh.
We’re talking sultry grays, friendly plants and chairs that look like they came from the version of IKEA that only the coolest Swedes know about.
Windows are floor-to-ceiling, leaving you with ample natural light. The hardwood floors are covered in places with antique carpets you’ll wish you could take home.
Wall decor is minimal but well-chosen, and bathrooms are that kind of snobby white tile that we absolutely adore.
They have Studio, One-Bedroom and Two-Bedroom apartments with various floor plans that you can check out yourself on their website.
Kitchens are fully equipped with ovens, microwaves, etc., and there are SONOS speakers that let you blast salsa music while you cook (don’t knock it ’til you try it).
Smart TVs and blackout shades make for easy movie nights. There are in-unit washers and dryers for laundry, and a weekly cleaning service that makes for a super-relaxing stay.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- No restaurant,: you’re self catering but social rooftop patio & community room
- Lending library: and on-site concierge
- Hotel bikes: available for guest use
Obviously, the main missing element of an apart-hotel is any kind of hotel bar or restaurant.
The nice thing about this ROOST, however, is access to a rooftop patio and a community room.
It’s probably unlikely you’ll meet a lot of other guests wanting to socialize, but the opportunity is there.
There’s a lending library that will keep you supplied with books, but our favorite amenity is the on-site concierge.
It can be hard to find real people to talk to at some hotel-hotels, even, and we appreciate that ROOST has managed to thread the needle between independence and service.
Finally, you’ll find a squad of hotel bikes that you can use to get around the city.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Central Downtown: location
- Walking distance: to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and museums
- Plenty of dining: and nightlife nearby
- Day trips: to Cedar Point or Cuyahoga Valley National Park
And you’ll probably want to try them out.
Downtown is a nice spot for a proper Cleveland tourism jaunt, but anyone staying more than a few days will want to explore a little further.
In walking distance you’ll find plenty of event venues, including music and sport, but our favorite it out by the lake.
You’ll find the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Women’s Air and Space Museum, or the Great Lakes Science Center all within a 20-minute walk.
There’s also plenty of dining to be found in the area, of all cuisines. The best place for an (insert type of meal here) is a perfect question to ask the concierge.
When you’re ready to mix it up, consider heading west towards The Flats or West Side Market. You’ll find plenty of cute bars and breweries there.
Or, head east towards University Circle.
Once there, you’ll have the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Botanical Garden and more all next to one another.
Further on are Little Italy and Lakeview Cemetery, the perfect places for a cannoli and a stroll, respectively (not concurrently).
If you’d like a day trip, head to Cedar Point for the iconic amusement park experience. It’s about an hour west.
If that feels too far, head just 20 minutes south to Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“SO MUCH BETTER than staying in a traditional hotel room. We loved having our own separate living room for early mornings or late nights when 1 spouse is sleeping and the other isn’t. The location was amazing, and the complimentary latte machine was a great treat. The security was outstanding also!…”
“I was extremely impressed with the facility, the room, and the staff. The building is clean and shows a considerable investment and care by the owner. The room was very spacious and comfortable. My wife and I were delighted upon arrival. The staff were personable, kind, and helpful. I couldn’t rate ROOST in Cleveland any higher. …..”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Not the *most* comfortable mattress ever, but it did the job….”
”Had difficulty controlling the temperature/regulating the thermostat in the unit….”
