This stunner of a building in the center of Greenwich Village houses a charming boutique hotel.
It’s a historic property that seems to have paid a bit less attention to renovations than some of its counterparts.
Be prepared for it to feel a bit older than most.
Of course, many (often us) love the magic of a place with some history, and this will more than make up for small rooms and dark hallways.
A bit less forgivable are reported reoccurring issues with climate control. In winter and summer, we might gently recommend finding a more modernized building.
Visually, we’ve got some modernism, with a simplified Art Deco feel to the whole thing.
The use of marble is top-notch, giving Golden Age realness with contemporary elements that give a timeless kind of elegance.
The location is also superb, a perfect window to the idiosyncratic charms of the infamous Greenwich Village.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 113
- Design: Plush Art Deco with bright whites, golds, and jewel-toned accents.
- Room sizes: Queen Singles 175 sq ft, other rooms over 200 sq ft.
- Recommended: Waverly Kings for more space, Juliet balconies for Empire View Queens.

Rooms are the height of the plush, Art Deco vibes.
We’ve got bright whites and golds with jewel-toned accents, patterned wallpaper, and little vintage telephones for the vibe.
We’re not going to pretend they’re not small, but it’s a historic hotel in New York City, so you won’t be surprised.
The Queen Singles start at 175 square feet, with only Double Doubles, King Singles, and select queen rooms measuring over 200.
If you are a sprawly sleeper or on the larger side, we highly recommend one of the Waverly Kings.
The views are nicer, and you’ll get a bit more space.
If bed size is no issue, we like the Juliet balconies in the Empire View Queens. If you’re not that fussed about views, some lower-level queen rooms offer private terraces.
The common ground, however, is small rooms with super cozy linens, HDTVs, and Bluetooth speakers.
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining: Society Café with metal ceilings, caramel and aqua leather, and marble tables.
- Menu: Market-to-table with cocktails, beers, and wines.
- Casual option: Parlour for drinks and live jazz.
- Fitness: Passes to nearby Planet Fitness for workouts.
On site dining is provided in a super gorgeous space called the Society Café.
The metal ceilings are just the start of the glamour, set off by a combination of caramel and aqua-colored leather, a small army of houseplants, and marble-topped tables.
It’s ‘market to table,’ which is a cute little take on ethical ingredient sourcing.
You can enjoy a nice selection of cocktails, beers, and wines as well.
If you don’t want to commit to a whole sit-down situation, check out the Parlour.
It’s tucked off the lobby, an extension of Society Café with great cocktails and live jazz.
There’s really nothing else in the way of facilities, but we appreciate that they provide passes to the nearby Planet Fitness.
It’s not a luxury wellness center, but it’s a solid spot to get your daily workout in.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Central location: Steps from 6th Ave and 14 St stations.
- Vibrant area: Surrounded by cafés, restaurants, and local shops.
- Nearby attractions: Stonewall Inn 10 min, Whitney Museum 15 min, Central Park within an hour’s walk.
- Easy city access: Subway and taxi options make exploring NYC simple, including Brooklyn.
The hotel is fully in the Village, one to two minutes from the 6th Ave and 14 St stations.
This means easy access to the entire city, but you might find yourself happy staying put.
You’ll be surrounded by cafés, restaurants, bagel joints, barbershops, you name it.
Being right on 6th Ave, we will admit, does not make for a relaxing walk out the door, and you’ve got urban noise almost 24 hours around here.
It’s the place to feel the excitement of the city though, of discovering the little nooks and crannies of the Village and/or diving into the culture.
Stonewall Inn is a 10-minute walk, the Whitney Museum is 15. That’ll take you along the Hudson, past the old piers towards Greenwich Street.
If you’d like to get out further, Central Park and the surrounding attractions are an hour’s walk, 10-minute taxi, or half hour subway ride.
Brooklyn isn’t hard to get to either, you can head straight into Williamsburg from 14th street.
