No, not that Greenwich; this gorgeous boutique hotel is named after the street, not the neighborhood, and is firmly in quieter, more residential, Tribeca.
You’re not going to have a crazy New York City adventure on your doorstep here, but it is a refreshingly calm quarter of Manhattan, and the type of neighborhood you can quickly feel at home in.
If you want to stumble directly home from a night out without a cab ride, it’s worth booking closer to nightlife.
But, in our opinion, a 4 am cab ride is a small price to pay for the handsome pampering you’ll receive at The Greenwich Hotel.
The hotel is a stately red brick number. You’ll see plenty of windows, and there’s an air of sophistication that permeates the building.
It strikes a balance between warmth and gravitas, feeling neither overtly homely nor overtly aloof.
Rich wood, low lighting, and carefully preserved architectural details define the interiors.
There’s a celebrity connection through co-owner Robert De Niro, reflected perhaps in the hotel’s confident, character-driven style.
Add the onsite spa, and the property rounds out into a well-balanced luxury NYC stay with broad appeal.
What are the rooms like?

- Handsome details: Carrera marble, oak, rugs, and curated décor.

They’ve put a lot of customization into the rooms. Each is unique, loosely divided into types, and often sorted by views.
The Courtyard Kings are the simplest, just over 300 square feet with Juliet balconies that face what might be considered a courtyard in NYC, but anywhere else would probably just be termed a wall.
At this starting price point, we think it’s worth a bit more to ensure you get the light and views promised by a floor-to-ceiling window.
Of course, suckers as we are for a literal wall of windows, we find the Corner Suites especially charming.
If you want to seriously indulge, the Greenwich Duplex is a gorgeous 2000-square-foot, two-story, 2-bedroom number with lovely wooden ceilings and a fireplace.
Decor varies, but you get the feeling that someone pulled the best they could find from every antique store in the western hemisphere, and a good part of the eastern.
We’re talking about a LOT of Carrera marble, handwoven rugs, Siberian oak, and more.
There’s no real color scheme, just a harmonious combination of handsome furnishings.
Every room has at least a chic minibar, a walk-in shower, on-request Nespresso machines, some kind of seating, and a TV.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Italian dining: Locanda Verde serves homestyle classics all day.
- Guest-only spaces: Cozy Drawing Room with books, curios, and a fireplace.
- Outdoor escapes: Courtyard and Colonnade provide shady, al-fresco dining.
- Spa indulgence: Shibui spa offers pool, treatments, and relaxation.
- Fitness focus: Personal training and yoga alongside the spa.
The on-site restaurant, nestled cozily on the street corner, is a taverna-style option serving up Italian-inspired goodness.
Locanda Verde straddles the line between fancy and casual with a relatively practical menu of homey classics served breakfast through dinner.
You can happily get your pasta on, or go all-out on the antipasti while you try out some Tuscan gin.
One of the nicest indulgences will be a drink or two in the guest-only spaces.
The leather-filled Drawing Room, filled with curios, books, and a charming fireplace, is a don’t miss in any vaguely cold weather.
The Courtyard and the Colonnade offer outdoor dining, some of which is covered for the winter months.
We know New York is calling, but we still advise taking an afternoon in the plant-filled Courtyard.
Then, of course, we’ve got the Shibui spa, a low-lit, relaxing space with a heated indoor pool, steamy showers, and a long list of available treatments.
The fitness center is located next to the pool and spa, done up in the same warm wood.
They offer personal training sessions and yoga classes.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Quiet Tribeca: Residential, not nightlife-heavy, but relaxing.
- Well connected:Easy walks to FiDi, Village, and Chelsea galleries.
- Hudson strolls: Whitney Museum 30 minutes away along the river.
- Fast transport: MTA and cabs make Midtown, Central Park, and Brooklyn quick trips.
Tribeca is unique in that it’s not super exciting on its own, but super well-connected to everything exciting in the rest of Manhattan.
There are some restaurants and cafés, but you won’t find much on the many lists of NYC foodie hotspots or must-see nightlife here.
Anyone with business in the Financial District, a love of the Village, or a desire to check out the Chelsea galleries will be more than happy, provided they like walking.
The Whitney is probably the farthest, a half-hour walk that you can take along the Hudson, if you like.
The Village section of Greenwich Street, Washington Square Park, and NYU are more like 20 minutes, and Wall Street is around 25.
Hop on the MTA, and you can get to any of these places within 15 minutes. It’s a pretty easy route to the Canal Street station.
Central Park and Midtown Manhattan are a bit of a trek, worth a 15-minute cab ride if you’re short on time.
Brooklyn is about the same, half an hour by subway, around 15 minutes by car.
