TL;DR What makes this Manhattan boutique hotel special? Why should I stay here?
- Modern chic – A new-build Pendry hotel with sleek West Coast minimalism.
- Zen vibe – Natural woods, textures, and mid-century curves.
- Not traditional – Don’t expect cozy boutique charm.
- Forward-looking – Fits right into Manhattan’s innovative side.

Yet another gem from California-born chain Pendry, this roomy Midtown boutique hotel bring something a little bit different.
It’s a new build connected to a large development that’s mostly a mall but also a bit office building and, clearly, a tad hotel.
Of course, this doesn’t scream boutique charm, and it certainly isn’t giving traditional cozy intimacy.
Instead, it’s taken the natural minimalist parts of the West Coast attitude and opted for a zen-inspired feel.
It’s quite chic, in reality, even if it does seem a bit at odds with the sleek metal of the exterior.
We’re talking plenty of wood panels, textured walls and natural colors. Curvy furniture that hints at a mid-century vibe helps tie it all into the wavy metal building.
For a hyper-local Manhattan experience, this ain’t it, but, honestly, since when has Manhattan clung onto any culture that’s not forward-looking and innovative?
This is the perfect place to lean into that attitude.

Rooms are delicately decorated with luxurious but friendly sleek woods, muted colors and windows that allow the natural light pour right in.
The benefit of a new-build, as well, is the size. The smallest option here is just under 300 square feet, which is natural in California, sure, but in New York, it’s space for a party.
Rooms are divided by views, from King Singles to Double Doubles and Suites.
You can look out onto the mall, which has a certain touch of cozy seclusion, or out onto the city. The plushest options are the upper-level Skyline views.
Suites range from studios to two-bedrooms, which are all on the skyline level.
All options will include some sort of seating, Smart HDTVs, marble bathrooms, espresso machines, and requestable Bluetooth speakers.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Multiple venues – Bar Pendry, Garden Room, Vista Lounge.
- Dining flair – Zou Zou’s Mediterranean restaurant + Chez Zou lounge.
- Convenience – Access to full Manhattan West dining options.
- Wellness – Fitness studio on-site.
With easy access to the entirety of Manhattan West Complex you can simply avail yourself of any dining option there.
The hotel does have a few of its own, including the lovely Bar Pendry.
It’s a Pendry signature, well-curated and designed to touch on the atmosphere of each locale.
This one has that little splash of Art Deco that New York loves to inspire.
The Garden Room is for the daytime, coffee or cocktails. Vista Lounge is the spot for breakfast, a cute, sunny option on the fourth floor.
At night, we’ll move to Zou. There’s Zou Zou’s, a full-service restaurant with an East Mediterranean flair, and Chez Zou, a warm, lush cocktail lounge.
Unsurprisingly, Manhattan West has an extensive fitness studio.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Transport hub – Next to Penn Station, easy connections.
- Events hub – Close to Madison Square Garden.
- Quieter side – Just west of 5th Avenue’s main bustle.
- Classic NYC – Chelsea art galleries and Hudson River strolls.
This isn’t prime walkability kind of real estate, but depending on your needs, the location can be perfect.
You’re spitting distance from Penn Station, making any and all travel super-easy.
Madison Square Garden is just a couple of blocks away, though you’ll have to manage the 495 to get there.
The underpass will be a part of almost all your travel, if you choose to stay here.
Yet, staying a bit west of the main bustle gives you a bit of respite from 5th Avenue and its flashy neighbors.
Chelsea is immediately south, so feel free to skip the museum lines and let the galleries provide your culture fix.
The proximity to the Hudson River is also very nice, and a classic place for an evening stroll.
And, really, nothing is that far away; everything is well-served by the subway and taxis.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Super comfy bed and the room was spacious for NYC. I really liked the design, obviously a personal thing, but it felt stylish and cozy at the same time. Everything was spotless, which I really appreciated. The location is perfect, and there’s a great coffee place right in the building. Staff were friendly, helpful, and really on it, the birthday cake waiting in my room was such a thoughtful surprise. On top of that, the bar serves some really nice US wines by the glass, and the city view from the room was just great. I think it is really nice choice for a longer stay….”
“Overall the food is lovely however it’s expensive as you would expect in a five star hotel. The decor is beautiful great size rooms with everything 5 star. The beds super comfy….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Miss the macarons at turn down, but always love the slippers….”
”The FOOD is horrible. The room service is subpar….”
