TL;DR What makes this Manhattan boutique hotel special? Why should I stay here?
- Central SoHo: Sleek, contemporary boutique hotel in the heart of SoHo.
- Great views: Top-level rooms, and the rooftop lounge, tower over the city.
- Art-focused: Brand-name artwork throughout the hotel.
- Swimming Pool: Pool with a view; a rarity in Manhattan.

You won’t get any more central SoHo than the sleek, contemporary tower building of the ModernHaus hotel.
Snuggled in a little triangular area by 6th Ave and Canal Street, the hotel rises above a lower wood-clad base, creating a unique profile in a neighborhood better known for historic cast-iron buildings
The tower is a smidge disconnected from the lateral panels of the all-wood facade. Yet, the resulting views more than make up for a momentary ‘huh.’
Snag a top-floor room, and you’re doing great, looking out over Manhattan from an intimate space with plenty of contemporary flair.
It’s all a bit white cube, a consequence of the minimalist hotel aesthetic and the brand-name artwork scattered around the property.
We do wish they’d zhuzhed the decor up a little bit. In many areas, the white-on-white-on-primaries doesn’t give much, but an uncanny valley between gallery and home.
It works better in the outside areas, against well-chosen landscaping and contrasting natural textures.
If your take on art curation is ‘can I take a killer selfie,’ you’ll have a much easier time enjoying yourself.
Seeing work like this in a private space is a rare opportunity, and it’s well situated for documenting.
All in all, if you like a hip contemporary space and don’t mind a slightly prefabricated personality, this is the perfect spot for an artsy New York experience.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 114 total.
- Spacious sizes: Queens larger than typical NYC rooms, Deluxe have views.
- Suites for families: Sleep up to four, some with soaking tubs.
- Well equipped: Blackout shades, Nespresso, climate control, mini fridges.
- Quiet stay: Good soundproofing for sensitive sleepers.

Rooms are the worst offenders for the not-really-trying kind of contemporary minimalism.
They’re white and gray and beige with bright blue accents that are jarring rather than lively, in our opinion.
There are some nice touches like wood floors and nice textured throws, but we’re not sold on the cohesion.
There is plenty of variety, and you should be able to find something that fits your needs without much trouble.
The Modern Queen, our smallest option, is bigger than most NYC hotel rooms. Kings are even bigger, and Deluxe options offer killer views.
Most Suites sleep up to four, with sofa beds, soaking tubs and over 500 square feet of space.
Even your basic rooms, however, are well-equipped. They provide blackout shades and Nespresso machines for the morning, independent climate control, mini fridges, desks, and TVs.
The soundproofing is notable, which will be great news for more sensitive guests.

- Daytime pool: Best for lounging, service starts later in the afternoon.

The main hotel restaurant is called Jumpin’ Jacks, a relatively laid-back lounge-y area where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and early dinners.
The extensive couch real estate makes it a great place for some afternoon drinks.
For the evening, head to the roof. You’ll find Jimmy’s, a top-floor bar with superb views, specialty cocktails, and an outdoor pool.
The pool is open from the morning, but don’t expect snacks and drinks until later in the afternoon.
The views make it worthwhile to catch some rays during the daytime, regardless.
The Back Bar is an outdoor space with a fireplace that hits the spot on a cooler summer night.
There’s also a Peloton-equipped fitness center with super views and 24-hour access.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- SoHo hub: Surrounded by bars, shops, cafés, and local spots.
- Village nearby: West Village and Stonewall Inn within walking distance.
- Art scene: Chelsea galleries and Whitney Museum 30 minutes away.
- Quick transport: Canal Street subway minutes away, Brooklyn in 30 mins.
Soho’s not a huge space to explore, and it’s got plenty of fun spots.
It’s best just for a wander around Hudson-side Lower Manhattan, for lots of neat bars, shops, cafés, etc. The hotel concierge can recommend something to your taste.
You’re also quite close to the West (Greenwich) Village, long one of NYC’s most culturally important neighborhoods.
The infamous LGBTQ pilgrimage site, the Stonewall Inn, is there for example, about a 20-minute walk from the hotel.
And so too some of the last remnants of the folk music revival scene of the 50s and 60s; Cafe Wha and the Bitter End Club being maybe the best examples.
The plentiful artwork of Chelsea is not far either, just off the north side of the Village. There you’ll find the Whitney Museum just a half-hour walk away.
As for the rest, most Manhattan highlights are a 30-minute drive or subway ride away.
The Canal Street MTA stop is minutes from the hotel, connecting you to the length of Manhattan and into the Bronx.
Looking the other direction, you can pop over to Brooklyn in half an hour.
