A community like Lake Placid NY, with a small town and long history, remembers its own. The Grand Adirondack Hotel occupies a near century-old hotel building that has long been part of the community.
The stately brick stands tall in the center of town, overlooking Mirror Lake, at the pulse of Lake Placid’s comings and goings for generations.
Now part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, the current iteration of the hotel benefits greatly from the guaranteed luxuries the brand provides, though it has lost a bit of the local charm.
Still, with most nearby hotels leaning heavily on the remote nature escape aesthetic, there’s still more than enough niche for a center-of-town lodging in walking distance from the village’s many attractions.
What are the rooms like?
- 92 rooms: in total, clean and comfortable Marriott style.
- Choice of layouts: including King, Double Queen, and Suites.
- Lake views: available from select rooms with big windows.

- See each room in detail here
The Great Adirondack is the kind of place that doesn’t expect you to stay inside, and, given the scenery, we’d have a hard time arguing.
The rooms are not much to write home about, besides being clean, easy to navigate, and as comfortable as you’d expect a Marriott to be.
You’ll choose between King, Double Queen, and Suite accommodation, with options for views of Mirror Lake.
They range from 415 to 625 feet, with a small foyer with locally-sourced artwork next to a sweet sleeping room with a picture window.
Each room features a mini-fridge, TV, a Keurig machine, a sofa bed, and storage around a cute little ledge/windowsill. Bathrooms are similarly well-appointed yet straightforward.
They’re not going to blow your mind, but you will be kept comfy.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Main restaurant: Marcy offers European-inspired dining with local touches.
- Cozy bar: with rich wood and history, perfect for cocktails.
- Rooftop bar: Cloudsplitter is the only one in Lake Placid.
- Live events: with music and entertainment in the dining space.
- Extra amenities: like valet parking, bike rentals, and helpful concierge.
While the rooms could be easily interchanged, the common areas are unique, fun, and get closer to the heart of the hotel’s appeal.
The on-site restaurant is named after the site’s original hotel, the Marcy. A beautifully painted, wood-beamed dining room welcomes you for tastes of locally-inspired European-esque bites, with some American classics thrown in there, too.
The Marcy Bar is a moodier spot, with low lighting, rich wood and patterned tile that radiates history and elegance.
Small plates, sandwiches, and a small selection of entrées means that you don’t have to leave the bar, which is just perfect for a glass of red or a smooth Negroni.
Weather permitting, you can enjoy the same at the rooftop bar, Cloudsplitter, the only one of its kind in the small village of Lake Placid. The dining area also has a schedule of live music and events.
Other than this, you’ll want to check with the very knowledgeable front desk to check out your options for recreation.
There are more than enough nearby, and valet parking options and seasonal bike rentals allow for easy explorations.

The location could not be better, you’re right in the heart of the town with everything in walking distance….”

What Guests Didn’t Like
”The building isn’t the newest and that means that the rooms aren’t sound proof. It wasn’t a big deal for us! We were lucky and had quiet neighbours but we did notice the next morning (our departure day) with new neighbours that were quite loud that we could hear them in the other room…..”
”The room needed some maintenance and a deep cleaning. We told them do hopefully that will get taken care of….”
