Just blocks from Hudson’s main drag, the Wick is a contemporary boutique hotel and one more example of the Northeast’s unswerving devotion to converting old factories.
You’ll likely do a double take, as the building doesn’t have the antique fixtures or lush reclaimed wood of many others.
What it does have, however, is worth that second glance.
The brick has been retained and whitewashed. Inside and out, you’ll find black window frames and shiny new wooden furniture.
The exterior is a sleek set of wide windows that let sunlight pour into the hotel restaurant.
The effect is very much contemporary chic, with a dash of industrial from some well-placed exposed beams.
If you want a glimpse into the past, we have better options. If you want something stylish and comfortable, with the Marriott seal of approval, the Wick is your place.

Rooms have the same modern sensibilities, though could perhaps benefit from a bit more of the personality that the building has to offer.
You’ll find white and dark color schemes with blue accents and simple furniture that doesn’t quite measure up to the bright wood of the restaurant, for example.
Some rooms do offer the original wood floors, some elements of the original building have been retained, and there are some excellent views to be had.
Every room will include a large TV, mini-fridge, and desk. Bathrooms are a definite highlight, with shining marble, lush toiletries, and roll-in showers.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Restaurant & bar: The Wick Restaurant and Lobby Bar – breakfast, small plates, tasty cocktails, sunny, well-lit space.
- Fitness: Small gym with machines, mats, weights; Hudson mural adds artistic flair.
The Wick Restaurant and Lobby Bar will be the place to enjoy a lovely breakfast, and you may want to spend other meals in the sunny bar area they’ve created.
It really is a beautifully-designed space, with a wall of windows and simple furnishings that let the light shine.
The food is a collection of small plates and tasty cocktails. If you want a hot, filling, steak and potatoes kind of meal we recommend you go elsewhere, but suckers for local cheeses might want to stick around.
The fitness center is a nice addition and offers a small variety of machines, mats and weights.
The Hudson mural on the wall is a great addition, sweet and detailed, definitely something to look at while you get your heart rate up.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Location: Side street near Warren Street, 5 minutes from train station and waterfront.
- Dining & shopping: Excellent restaurants, cafés, boutiques, and galleries within walking distance.
- Activities: Walkable Hudson Valley exploration, ferry to Athens, great base for driving, biking, or scootering in Upstate New York.
The Wick’s location is excellent. Tucked in a side street, five minutes from the train station and the water, the hotel feels like a secret little hideaway.
Not that there’s much to hide from. For the visitor, Hudson itself is a cluster of streets surrounding Warren Street, where you’ll find a cluster of excellent restaurants, cafés, art galleries, and boutiques to explore.
It’s definitely a ‘walk around and see’ kind of place, where you’ll be able to enjoy the gorgeous Hudson Valley surroundings as you stroll through the streets.
As a home base for a Hudson Valley exploration, it’s also got a lot of merit.
A stop on the breathtaking riverside Amtrak train lines, Hudson is a great place to get off and drive or bike through the stunning scenery of Upstate New York.
There’s also a ferry across the river to neighboring Athens, a sweet, tiny town that doesn’t scream NYC gentrification quite as loudly.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
”The Wick is a modern, affordable hotel with anything you would want: great parking but also a 4 minute walk to the train station. Secluded but close to Warren St shopping and nightlife. Good breakfast, good coffee and a full bar and restaurant. I liked the very modern design: luxurious but masculine and streamlined. Only complaint: the railway horns do go all night…”
”We had the best time staying at The Wick! Walkable to town, easy parking, pet friendly. The room was spacious and clean with comfortable amenities. Will definitely be coming back!…”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Only á la carte breakfast available, and the nearby café (Kitty’s) has limited choice for breakfast. Room a bit pricey, but seems like all hotels in Hudson are pricey….”
”My only concern is the height of the bed. I wasn’t able to get into it. I slept in my wheelchair…..”
