The architecture, the art, the nature- there’s a lot to like about this Beacon, NY boutique hotel.
The Roundhouse is a modern hotel built in the exoskeleton of an old fabric mill.
It’s the perfect representation of Beacon’s factory-town history and present renaissance as a cute, artsy, Hudson Valley stopover.
After years of neglect, a lot of the structure had to be gutted and replaced, but guests can find preserved elements like wood beams, original windows, and reclaimed wood floors throughout.
Its current state is a tribute to the owner’s dedication to preservation.
Modern elements like floor-to-ceiling windows and a decidedly hip seating by a gas fireplace keep things from feeling excessively industrial.
Instead, the unique building feels almost like it was made for the hotel, and not the other way around.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 23, including King, Double Queen, and Suites.

- Suites: offer extra space but can feel empty; Penthouse Suite is a standout.

Rooms at The Roundhouse have a measure of industrial minimalist chic to them, but could benefit from a couple more carefully selected design touches.
The wood beam ceilings are definitely stunning, but without any pops of color, the rooms run on the edge of blandly monochrome.
The carpeting in many of the rooms does absolutely no favors to a space that is begging for some wood flooring.
A nice rug in all the rooms would make things feel a little less spartan.
The amenities, however, are solid, with a TV, Keurig coffee machine, mini bar and a truly darling throw blanket on each bed that you’ll want to wear around the hotel.
Many rooms are ADA compliant.
You’ll enjoy king-sized beds unless you’re in one of the Doubles, which feature two queen beds.
Suites offer extra space, but often end up feeling a bit empty.
The Penthouse Suite, with its gorgeous view, balcony and soaking tub, is a clear standout.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Roundhouse Restaurant: sits next to Fishkill Creek waterfalls, serving New American cuisine.
- Menu highlights: smoked brisket, vegan strozzapreti, seasonal cocktails.
- Schedule: closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays; brunch on Sundays.
- Breakfast: continental options delivered to room; nearby restaurants for heartier fare.
You don’t need to book the Penthouse to enjoy the view. The Roundhouse Restaurant sits on the edge of a series of small waterfalls in Fishkill Creek, the sweet body of water that winds picturesquely around the hotel.
It would be a nice place to eat even if the food was mediocre, which it isn’t.
You’ll enjoy some first-class New American cuisine, including a killer smoked brisket and vegan strozzapreti dish that makes up for what is otherwise a pretty meaty menu.
Drinks are seasonal, with spicy autumn options and bursts of fruitiness in the summer.
Please note that the Roundhouse Restaurant is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Breakfast is a little less gourmet, consisting of continental options brought to the room beforehand.
If you’re a quick snack and a coffee type, this will be perfect, but long, hearty breakfast lovers will want to check out nearby restaurants.
Or, if you’re lucky enough to stay at The Roundhouse on a Sunday, brunch will satisfy all your needs and more.
A cheeky Bloody Mary and spicy avocado toast, and you’ll want to stay another week.

And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Absolutely fabulous situated on the banks of the fishkill creek. Waterfall, high ceiling and spacious room. Extraordinary breakfast in the room, best bagels and muffins on the whole trip. Yoghurt out of this world. Quiet and wonderful. The free loop bus gets you right to the doorstep (well almost). Whole main street is walkable (it is either a 15 min jog or 8 hour shop 😉)….”
“A very relaxing stay at a beautiful place with spectacular rooms and friendly staff…..”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Breakfast could be better and would be nice if served at the restaurant for the price of the rooms instead of a takeaway bag. guests should have some space to sit outside and enjoy coffee/drinks without having to go to the restaurant for a full meal or wait till the evening for the restaurant to open up….”
”The bathroom bar door kept sliding close and doesn’t open easily from the inside…..”
