TL;DR
- Historic hospital: 1920s infirmary turned boutique hotel.
- Charming details: Courtyard garden and rooftop bar with views.
- Peaceful vibe: Best for relaxing stays, not nightlife seekers.

This unique building on the outskirts of Downtown Albuquerque is a lovely place for anyone passionate about historical healthcare facilities.
You’ve got a multi-decade history as an infirmary, grand views of nearby hospitals and a mint-green color scheme that just screams ‘scrubs.’
In all seriousness, we think a 1920s hospital-turned-hotel is actually quite cool.
The building is gorgeous, the courtyard garden relaxing, and the renovated rooftop bar is just what the doctor ordered (insert eye roll here).
Set as it is, between Downtown Albuquerque and the University of New Mexico, it’s not much made for the walk-into-town, out-until-two crowd.
Rather, this is more of a relaxing base where you can enjoy a good, serene, southwestern breeze.
What are the rooms like?
- Room count: 74 rooms in a historic building.
- Retro touches: Botanical prints, turquoise accents, and a calming vibe.
- Comfort features: Frette linens, Smart TVs, fridges, and robes.
- Room choices: Kings, Doubles, Deluxe, and full Suites with living areas.
- See each room in detail here
Rooms have adopted a fairly hospital-esque take on decor, that is, that it should be relaxing.
Framed botanical prints hang over soft, beige couches. Cream-colored walls are mostly only offset by pops of turquoise furnishings.
Yes, some do come off a bit minty. We’re a forgiving sort, with a soft spot for a bit of retro.
Rooms come on the smaller side, no great shock for a historical building, but they’re well-situated and comfortable.
They feature the ever-popular Frette linens, Smart TVs, mini fridges, and cozy robes.
250 square foot Traditional Kings are the simplest option. Double Doubles, Deluxe or Executive options have added space for beds and/or seating areas, while the One Bedroom and Cottage Suites offer separate sitting rooms.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Breakfast included: Complimentary spread with a solid variety.
- Rooftop lounge: Apothecary serves cocktails with views.
- Outdoor spaces: Garden patio and landscaped seating areas.
- Extras: Fitness center, outdoor hot tub, free shuttle and parking.
You’ll start the day strong, with a complimentary breakfast at the hotel, mostly cold options, but with a nice variety, by no means a mere continental.
The rooftop’s Apothecary Lounge will provide the beverages, a pretty bar and lounge with a great view and classic cocktails.
We like the inclusion of prohibition-era drinks on the menu.
For more fresh air, there’s a full garden patio with outdoor seating and landscaping designed to take you out of the city.
Active guests will love the fitness center, and less active guests the outdoor hot tub.
Transport will be easy, with a complimentary airport shuttle and free parking.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Convenient location: Right by the highway for easy exploring.
- Local hotspots: Old Town, museums, zoo, and cultural centers nearby.
- University access: UNM is just across the highway.
- Day trips: Petroglyph Monument, Sandia Crest, Madrid, and Breaking Bad tours.
The location is probably best for staying at the hotel, which is not the worst idea. It’s also close to the highway, so anyone who wants to spend most of their time out in the hills will be well-situated.
It also won’t be hard to get to the local hotspots. Old Town, with the Albuquerque Museum and the Explora Center by Tiguex Park, is a 10-minute drive.
The riverside park area, with its zoo, beach, country club, botanic garden, and walking trails, is also a short drive.
The National Hispanic Cultural Center, set on the south edge of the park, is just 11 minutes away.
We’ll send the brew dogs in the other direction, about 10 minutes northwest, towards the Automotive Museum, with a handful of breweries nearby, begging you to tour.
You’ve also got the University, just across the highway from the hotel.
If you get on the highway, you can pop out to catch some natural beauty. When the rattlesnakes are away,
The Petroglyph Monument is a must-see.
There are cultural options outside of the city as well. Breaking Bad fans can tour various filming locations, while the (kind of) nearby town of Madrid is a great day trip.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
”Location was right off I-25 South with easy off/on access; only heard an occasional siren. The hotel and staff were amazing, beautifully decorated, and the amenities were excellent (super comfy bathrobe, makeup towel, shower seat). I felt right at home! Hotel was by far the absolute BEST place I’ve stayed and will definitely return….”
”It’s a unique hotel. The grounds are beautiful and the proximity to a park was wonderful for our dog walks. The roof top lounge has interesting and good food and drink We would definitely stay again….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”One minor gripe — lack of an outlet on the nightstand…”
”The room was a bit industrial. With a few tweaks the atmosphere could be warmer….”
