TL;DR
- Historic resort: Large, traditional Whitefield, NH hotel with classic charm.
- Plenty of space: Spa, tennis courts, and multiple facilities within sprawling grounds.
- Relaxing vibe: More polished than a B&B, but still friendly and leisurely.

The initial approach might not feel super boutique hotel, but Whitefield, NH’s famous, sprawling compound keeps a leisurely kind of friendliness within its buttery yellow walls that we look for in our favorite boutiques.
The building does look quite vast, but is quite manageable once the first impression wears off. As you come up the long, rural access road, it’s easily to be overwhelmed by the cheerful expanse of hotel.
Once inside, however, it’s easy to see that the space is needed to accommodate guest rooms, a spa, tennis courts, and more in a long list of facilities.
While it’s a far cry from the 10-room cozy B&Bs you often find in the area, we could never judge anyone for trading one-on-one with the hosts for one-on-one with a masseuse.

Rooms are nice and varied, from cozy Queens to spacious Suites. Classic Rooms won’t get you any mountain views, but it’s the kind of place where you’ll be hard-pressed to find a bad view.
If it’s important to you, Grand View rooms and most of the Suites do let you wake up to the sun coming over the Presidential or Kilkenny Ranges.
The decor is not going to blow anyone’s mind, but it has a personality and goes together quite well. Expect soft neutrals with unobtrusive florals, balanced with crisp white linens and rich wood furnishings.
Your most lux accommodation can include anything from fireplaces to balconies, but the more basic options are really far from it.
Every room includes a coffee machine, individual climate control, a TV, a mini fridge, and top-notch linens and bath amenities.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Main dining: Harvest Tavern offers elevated local-focused dishes.
- Wine lovers: 1865 Wine Cellar features high-end pairings.
- Casual drinks: Veranda deck lounge for cocktails and snacks with a view.
- Spa: Full-service treatments, beauty care, and even spa dining.
- Special feature: The Tower, a scenic glass-walled retreat.
You’ve got a multitude of options for dining. The main restaurant, Harvest Tavern, works extensively with local producers, to great effect.
We love a casual yet stylish pub vibe, and that’s exactly what you’re getting, though it’s definitely on the fancier side. It’s got a small bar area attached, for those looking to try their inventive and delicious cocktails.
If you’re more of a wine aficionado, 1865 Wine Cellar is the spot. The pairings are inspired and the menu decidedly high-end, making it the perfect spot for your treat-yourself vacation dinner.
Outdoor kitties will love Veranda, the deck lounge, where you can order snacks and drinks and watch the trees dance.
There are plenty of other facilities to explore, primarily the Spa. It offers massage treatments, facials, hair and nail services, and even a spa dining menu, full of healthy indulgences.
It’s fairly straightforward except for the Tower, a secluded spot coated in windows that lets you enjoy a side of scenery with whatever way you’ve decided to relax.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Mountains: Surrounded by the Kilkenny and Presidential Ranges.
- Outdoor fun: Top-notch hiking, skiing, and nature activities.
- Nearby town: Littleton offers dining and boutique shopping.
- Culture: Craftsmen galleries and unique local art.
- Breweries: Schilling, Wildbloom, and Littleton Freehouse Taproom.
- Local vibe: Quaint downtown Whitefield with small-town charm.
You’re deep in the Whites, on the outskirts of both the Kilkenny and Presidential Ranges.
It’s not just the views, hiking, skiing, and other outdoor sports are easily accessible and some of the best New England has to offer.
There’s not much town to be found, though the bustling metropolis of Littleton is less than half an hour by car.
There, we’re looking at some fun local dining, and even a few cute boutique shopping options.
With so much natural beauty around, you might expect a slew of predictable landscape painters and some wood carvings, but there’s some unique stuff happening. One location of the NH League of Craftsmen is definitely worth a visit.
Source local brews at both Schilling Beer Co. and Wildbloom brewing, or head to the Littleton Freehouse Taproom to taste-test the region.
There is a downtown Whitefield, a bit of a one-Starbucks-town but charming in its own way.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?

“We had a wonderful time ; the staff are very friendly and considerate, too. The location and the facilities. The pool was big and the workout room was extensive. There are also many other amenities like a game room, library and a writing room. It was a beautiful location….”
“Wonderful stay. Hotel is in a great central location for fall foliage drives. Great lobby bar with a good food selection. Breakfast buffet was delicious….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Dinner room service was very difficult to obtain. Could not reach them on the phone. Recording asked that I leave a message and I would be contacted within 10 mins. Never heard from them. So after 30 mins, had to leave my room and walk down to the front desk to inquire about how to reach room service to place an order. Clerk took my order and had it delivered about 30 mins later which was nice. However the meal was cool by the time it arrived which was disappointing. However, this was really a small thing given our spectacular our stay was….”
”The hotel is on the national register of historic places. However the floors were a bit creaky. We would have appreciated some fresh complimentary coffee in the lobby as the keurig coffee maker does not seem to make very good coffee….”
