TL;DR
- Retro motel vibes: – 1958 gem brought back to life
- Instagram-ready: – brand new, chic interiors
- Easy parking: – individual entrances and neon signs
- Not romantic: – but fits Reno’s quirky character

Surprise! Once again, and this time from Midtown Reno, us totally non-biased folks at Boutique Hotel Hub bring you a…renovated motel!
Sure, sure, we’re predicable, but there’s a lot to love about a refurbished motel in general, and this 1958 gem in particular.
We’re talking easy parking, individual entrances, neon rooftop signs, cool little courtyards….we could go on.
It’s not the most romantic location, but the rooms are brand new and Instagram-ready. It’s sister property, The Jesse, has a similar location and a similar vibe.
It’s contemporary chic next to a used car lot, which certainly isn’t traditional, but we feels like it fits Reno pretty well.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 21
- Variety: – ADA, Standard, and Suite options
- Stylish decor: – pale wood, paneling, and patterned wallpaper
- Comfy extras: – Smart TVs, fridges, workstations, coffee & tea
- Suites -: have sofa beds and extra seating areas
- See each room in detail here
There are plenty of different room types, from ADA-compliant options to Suites to Standard rooms.
Your most cozy is a Standard Queen, the most spacious a King Suite with a plush corner couch.
They all feature Smart TVs, mini-fridges, workstations, and coffee and tea setups on the minibar. Suites have added amenities like pull-out sofa beds and seating areas.
The decor is the height of cool. Custom-made bed frames in pale wood that matches the wall paneling and gray tiling are offset by super stylish patterned wallpaper.
We find the minimalism takes a bit of the home-away-from-home feeling out of it, but can’t deny they look great.
The King Suites are a nice choice, as the additional furniture adds a bit more warmth.
Or, if you’re completely down for hotel room that looks like that third-wave coffee bar you went to in Los Feliz (too regional?) in 2014, they all fit the bill.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- No onsite dining: – but Pangolin Café is right nearby
- Snacks & drinks: – lobby store and patio seating
- Sauna Club: – sauna, shower, and cold plunge
- Relax: – patios for sun and atmosphere
There’s no onsite dining, but the Pangolin Café right around the corner serves as an easy go-to for your first meal. Coffee and tea are available in-room.
There’s also a general store in the lobby, with snacks and drinks for you to enjoy on the patio. The staff is also more than happy to direct you towards the nearest adventure of your choice.
Or, stay on site. There might not be a restaurant, but the Sauna Club is a must-visit.
The hotel boasts a shower, sauna, and cold plunge shower, set near the patio with ample space to lie in the sun.
They book in 2-hour increments, meaning the shower, sweat, plunge, bake routine can be repeated many times.
Even if the sauna experience is not for you, the patios are lovely places to enjoy the vibe, the company, and the sun.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Midtown Reno: – plenty of breweries and dining
- Cultural sites: – Nevada Museum of Art, Pioneer Center
- Riverwalk: – strolls by the Truckee River
- Nearby escapes: – Virginia City, Hunter Creek, Galena Creek
- Day trip: – Tahoe for nature, beaches, and views
Midtown Reno is not the hoppiest of hopping towns, but there’s plenty nearby to explore, and even more a short ride away.
Nearby the hotel you’ll find plenty of restaurants and breweries to explore. The Nevada Museum of Art is a 2-minute drive, 15-minute walk towards the Truckee River.
Once there, check out the Discover Center, or head further towards riverside. You’ll pass the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, come near the Automobile Museum, and the famed ‘biggest little city’ arch.
The riverside is one of the most relaxing areas of Reno, with a continuous path running for a good while along either side.
The connections between sections can be tenuous, but its a nice little adventure.
On the other side of the river, it’s a lot of the same. The hotel area near the ‘Riverwalk’ district is developed and easy to wander around, though if you’re not too thrilled about casino hotel architecture, you might want something else.
Head east, and you’ll hit a slightly run-down neighborhood of breweries, distilleries and hip restaurants that should keep you busy.
If you’re looking only for the fancy parts of town, don’t bother, but if you like to be at the edge of gentrification here’s your chance.
The surrounding area is also worth a visit. Virginia City gives old-timey charm in a mix of Victorian architecture and a lot of historical tourism.
Or, get out into the hills. Hunter Creek is about 15 minutes away, while Gelena Creek offers you and your pup some nice trails about 20 minutes away.
Don’t forget about Tahoe. A day trip to the lake is great for anyone who likes natural beauty, big-ticket houses, and mountain beaches.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“It was newly remodeled, and the furnishings were lovely, and towels and sheets were cozy. It had everything that I needed, and I loved that the products were sustainable, and in refillable containers, rather than the little individual, disposable bottles. Also the coffee cups and glasses were real rather than plastic. I also loved walking among the Truckee River, which was a 10 minute walk from the hotel….”
“Clean modern room. Wonderful bathroom products. Great shower. There is coffee and tea in the room (coffee is instant/ground coffee in a tea bag) with a Fellow’s hot water kettle. Bathrobes are provided. Bathroom products include shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash, and lotion. There is a tub at the sink that has cotton tips and face pads. Water is provided in a carafe. There is a mini-fridge in the room….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”I would have liked have a pair of slippers to wear in the room – this is not a criticism, just a suggestion….”
”No utensils to be found, and I made the unfortunate mistake to order in noodle soup….”
