A bit on the larger side for a boutique hotel, we’re putting this Omaha Kimpton in on the strength of its amenities, the beauty of its building, and its good value pricing.
It’s in these smaller cities where the Kimpton standard of luxury makes a real mark.
Many hotels will be happy to skate by due to the lack of competition, but Kimptons have a name to live up to, and the Omaha branch lives up to it.
It has been a purpose-built hotel since 1916 and it still packs plenty of historical charm. The interiors are open, bright and well-decorated.
Plenty of space is alowed for natural light, which falls perfectly on crisp white walls, and the kind of soft floral patterning that feels like the sitting room of a Miss Havisham who wasn’t left at the altar.
We’ve also got a lovely bar and restaurant, nightly social hours, an outdoor swimming pool, and plenty of little touches that make a stay here cozy-luxurious.

Rooms are divided into Essential, Premium and Suites, all with a sophisticated casual chic.
It’s a bit like the city mouse and country mouse came together with an interior designer and they all just nailed it.
Colors are a mix of warm creamy whites, with sandy accents and bold black trim.
Headboards are printed with English country-style landscapes, presumably custom-made light fixtures, delicately floral.
Bathrooms glow white in the sunlight with patterned tile work and patterned wallpaper.
Essential rooms are cute enough that we wouldn’t stop anyone from staying there, but there’s nowhere for a group to stay.
We think the Premium rooms are worth booking anyway, for the chance at a balcony and a lot more space. They have King Singles and Queen Doubles.
Basic Suites aren’t really worth the upcharge, in our opinion, but if any of the signature suites are in budget, they’re pretty impressive.
The small little platform dining area in the Presidential Suite is equally great for celebrating a birthday or holding a business meeting.
Whatever you choose, you’ll have Kimpton-level amenities. These include TVs, plush bathroom amenities, nice spacious showers, and more.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining: Multiple options including Petit Orleans, Orleans Room, and Committee Chophouse.
- Cuisine: Mix of American with French influences using local ingredients.
- Pool: Heated pool with private courtyard and lounge chairs.
- Fitness: On-site gym with weights, cardio machines, and Pelotons.
The food happens in quite a few locations, so choose what works for you.
The all-day café, Petit Orleans, is the perfect place for a light breakfast or a smooth cappuccino.
Next door, you’ll find a full meal any time of the day at the Orleans Room. The cuisine is sprinkled with French, but in truth is more American, with plenty of local ingredients and country-wide favorites.
If you want something a little more formal, head to the Committee Chophouse, a chic steakhouse with all the low lighting, whiskey-forward cocktails and truffle fries you could dream of.
The heated pool is an absolute don’t-miss, laid out with lounge chairs in a private courtyard.
If you’d like to work up a sweat before your soak, head to the on-site fitness center, with a nice variety of free weights, cardio machines, and even a Peloton or two.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Location: West Omaha, Blackstone District with upscale, historic vibe.
- Nearby: Old Market less than 10 minutes, riverfront attractions like Farnam Pier and Old Metz Brewery.
- Cultural: Children’s Museum, Art Museum within short drive.
- Zoo: Henry Doorly Zoo under 10 minutes by car.
The location is in the west side of Omaha, by the Blackstone District a newly revitalized historic neighborhood.
It’s not really as historical as, say, the Old Market district, and it’s certainly more residential, but it has an old-school, upscale feel.
It’s not too hard to get to the other areas though either, though if you want to be in walking distance of the river, we’d suggest a different location.
Old Market is less than a 10-minute drive, and it’s a nice place to park if you then want to wander to the riverside.
Once there, you can explore Farnam Pier, head to Old Metz Brewery, or up along the river towards the Kiewit Luminarium.
Between Old Market and Blackstone, there are plenty of other attractions to check out, all under 10 minutes away.
The Children’s Museum is great for kiddos, the Art Museum is worth a short visit.
Of course, the real main Omaha attraction, the Henry Doorly Zoo, is basically driving distance from wherever you stay.
From the Kimpton you’ll get there in under 10 minutes.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Superb, classic feel with contemporary/history vibes. Helpful, kind staff, great drinks and food, quiet, comfortable room….”
“Tastefully restored historic hotel. The service was great. The restaurants and bars in the hotel were excellent. The room was very nice and comfortable. The location was great. It was great to stay somewhere unique, not jist another Marriott experience. Can’t wait to come back in the summer when the pool is open….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”One comment is to not be scared off by the tile floor in the lobby. It’s old and at first I was uneasy because of this, but I think they kept it because of the historic aspect….”
”I needed an ADA room and it was a long way to go to get there – having a wheelchair available would have been nice….”
