This cute 1906 building in Shaw, St. Louis is the perfect place to experience good ol’ fashioned Midwestern hospitality.
Built by a brick manufacturer as a wedding gift for his daughter, it’s a piece of St. Louis history.
It’s decidedly genuine – this is no hotel chain, but real Missourians sharing a historic home with delighted guests.
The decor is very “we got a little overexcited at the best antique stores and flea markets in a 50-mile radius”, which is easy to relate to and fun to explore.
Throughout the house you’ll find knicknacks, one-of-a-kind ceramics and painted mirror frames, etc.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 3 – each with its own personality and charm.

It’s a small, boutique property, with just three unique, comfortable rooms to choose from. The names are royal, choose between the King, Queen or Duchess experience.
Each has a comfortable bed, a working space, and private bathrooms.
The Duchess Room is a heritage affair featuring a Victorian bed frame that the owner inherited from her great-grandmother, antique barn-wood furniture, and marble in the bathroom from when the house was first built.
The octagonal Queen Room occupies the building’s turret. All the furniture is antique, but the onyx shower in the bathroom is height of modern comfort.
The King Room is our final and most spacious option, with a four-poster bed, a seating area, and a working desk.
The decor is rich, tapestry-like linens and a gallery wall of antique photographs and paintings.

- Friendly atmosphere: with shared meals and cozy communal spaces.
- Outdoor features: include a seasonal pool and peaceful garden.
- Relaxed charm: with board games, comfortable chairs, and a homey feel.
There is always a continental option for light breakfast enjoyers, or those with tight schedules, but the hot breakfast is definitely worth your time.
It’s real midwestern fare, a true American breakfast with meat, fruit, and a cup of joe.
You’ll end up lounging around the table and getting to know fellow guests. The common areas, full of board games and chairs you could live in, cater to this kind of temporary community building.
It’s an experience that’s hard to find at a more typical hotel, and a definite upside of the B&B experience.
The seasonal pool is shared by less than ten people so no fighting over pool chairs.
There’s also a lovely garden to enjoy, if the more than 100 acres of park and botanical garden across the street aren’t enough.
