Hotel Ivy, from Marriott’s Luxury Collection on the edge of Downtown and Loring Park, Minneapolis, is a glamorous, modern moment in the city’s hotel scene.
It doesn’t give boutique hotel vibes from the outside, being part of a fairly typical skyscraper, though we like the building it’s built around.
Those who like Very Tall Things can enjoy it from the street, but others should pop inside to see its other side.
The interior really shows off the glam of a towering building covered in windows. It’s an airy space filled with whites and golds and upscale design elements.
Technically, the space is a hotel and a set of residences, which is why it feels a bit bigger than it is.
What it means is you get the grandeur of a landmark skyscraper with the intimacy of a boutique hotel.
Lovers of cozy spaces and cushy couches and quirky decor will want to head elsewhere, probably.
However, anyone interested in a chic stay in the calmer part of town will be happy to be here.

A showcase of careful design; the interiors are all white, beige and brown, but never boring.
Walls and carpets are pale and unobtrusive, most of the interest coming from some well-chosen furniture pieces in a pale wood that keeps the space light and open.
It helps that none of the rooms are under 400 square feet, meaning you won’t have a problem with space.
Superior and Executive rooms are King Singles or Queen Doubles. They’ve pretty much all got great views, and the quality of amenities is top-notch.
Suites are quite similar, and we’re not sure if we’d spring for one if we didn’t need the extra privacy. Many of them have sofa beds, which makes suite-sharing easy for two couples.
But really, when basic amenities include soaking tubs, rain showers, working desks, and plenty of space, we think a guestroom is a solid choice.
Rooms also include more standard amenities like robes, TVs, honor bars, and Byredo toiletries.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Restaurant: Breva for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Grill staples and Midwest classics.
- Bar: Cantina-inspired menu, tequila-focused drinks.
- Fitness & Wellness: Anda gym, nutrition advice, personal training, yoga; spa with steam rooms, whirlpool, sauna.
- Extras: Connection to Minneapolis Skyway, indoor and outdoor lounges.
The hotel restaurant selection is relatively new, following Monello’s 2023 closure.
Breva is the main space, a sunny first-floor establishment with a selection of grill staples and other Midwest classics.
It’s a 3-meals-a-day kind of place, with a somewhat unremarkable breakfast and a small but clever selection of lunch dishes.
The hotel bar is a moody space within the hotel, featuring a cantina-inspired menu.
It’s quite a nice change from the typical burgers, fries, salads and sides. The tequila-focused bar menu is another plus.
We, along with what we assume are many other, have a love/hate relationship with a hotel gym.
Anda, at Hotel Ivy, is just 100% on the love side. It’s extremely well-equipped and catches plenty of sun with enough A/C so that it doesn’t get hot.
They offer nutrition advice, personal training, and group yoga classes in the space.
And then, of course, there’s the spa. Treat yourself to a simple flash facial or a full aromatic ritual of massage, scrub, body wrap and/or scalp treatments.
And don’t forget to indulge in the relaxing lounges, whirlpool hot tub, steam rooms, and sauna while you’re at it.
The last little perk of the hotel is the connection to the famous Minneapolis Skyway.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Transport: Minneapolis Skyway for indoor access across Downtown.
- Nearby: Target Center, Mill District riverfront, Mill Ruins Park, Stone Arch Bridge, Mill City Museum.
- Nightlife: Warehouse District and North Loop for more active evening options.
- Events: Sports, theater, local and international music acts nearby.
The Skyway isn’t entirely the most efficient way to get around town, but it’s got all the novelty in the world, and we recommend taking it for at least one ride.
You can get into the center of Downtown this way, making all your exploring that much easier.
Around the Target Center, you’ll find plenty of event space, from sports to theater to both local and international music acts.
Head to the riverside over near the Mill District for some relaxing time outside.
It’s easily the most charming part of the city, an extensive green area along the banks of the Mississippi filled with interesting spots.
Mill Ruins Park and the Stone Arch Bridge are lovely areas to see a bit of history.
If you cross the river, you can visit the Mill City Museum.
It’s a daylight hours kind of downtown, but once you’re by the river, you can easily head up towards the Warehouse District and North Loop for some slightly more active nightlife.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“The staff was wonderful. We went for our mom’s birthday and they added a personal touch with a happy Birthday note to her. The place is clean, spacious and has a warm, classy and cozy vintage feel. We also enjoyed the relaxing spa experience and both restaurants in the hotel….”
“The location was great for my business trip and was walkable to most immediate needs. The pillows were very nice as were the finishes and furniture. Very clean, well designed spaces. With two on-site restaurants, there were at least a couple of options….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Wanted to substitute cheddar cheese for goat cheese on the omelette and they said they only had American cheese even though the breakfast sandwich had cheddar….”
”Hade to order ice 3 times to get it. Hade to order towels after they cleaned the room. Could of used a refrigerator to keep wine cold….”
