On the border of Williamstown and North Adams, in a countryside that is a dream to drive around in, a roadside stop has a special type of appeal.
Tourists Hotel is a newly-built, contemporary boutique hotel take on the theme, and it works beautifully.
A lodge-style lobby and rooms that use wood grain as a decorative element strike a perfect balance of natural and design.
With the Hoosic River in the backyard, you’ll enjoy Western Massachusetts’ gorgeous nature throughout your stay.
The hotel property includes a suspension bridge that leads into an extensive network of paths, a cabin, and recreational buildings.
There is a strong love of the arts at the place, with frequent arts activities and a live music series.
It’s a testament to the region, a place where the best of contemporary art, gilded-age design, and orchestras collide.
No matter if you’re here dropping a child off at college, making a Mass MoCA pilgrimage, or leaf-peeping, Tourists will show you the best the Berkshires has to offer.

Rooms are distinguished by view at Tourists Hotel
Gallery rooms are for the gardeners. They face the grounds, letting you admire the landscaping and late-night bonfires from the comfort of your room.
Caravan rooms are also connected to the main grounds, giving easy access to all the amenities and a little extra space with a lofted bunk.
Ramble rooms face the riverside, lined with trees, and are for those that want to be close to the walking trails.
Canopy rooms are the most secluded, providing balconies that bring you into the treeline, singing with the bird and arguing with the squirrels.
If you like to play at Sleeping Beauty, this is the one for you (evil stepmother not included).
There are also a few suites in high demand at Tourists Hotel.
If you’re lucky enough to snag one you’ll enjoy some serious space, along with a gorgeous tree-shaded balcony in the Sanford Suite.
Decor is essentially the same, pale wood features, earthy textiles and plain white walls emphasize the nature of it all.
You could get lost in the knots and color variations in the tall planks of barely-treated wood that serve as headboards.
Amenities include cozy king beds, working desks, TVs, bluetooth radios, and dreamy daybeds tucked into the windows.
Bathrooms are minimalist, clean-lined affairs with basin sinks, waterfall showers, and super cute striped robes.
You’ll love the Ursa Major and MATER toiletries as well.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Restaurant: Onsite “The Airport Rooms” with New American cuisine and Island Creek oysters.
- Nearby: Bar & Grille across the street; lodge offers all-day snacks and pre-ordered breakfast to the room.
- Activities: Guided nature walks, hikes, outdoor yoga, live music, and seasonal events.
Tourist’s onsite restaurant, The Airport Rooms, is a lovely addition to a rural space without a bustling restaurant scene.
It’s not the only restaurant nearby, indeed, there’s a cute Bar & Grille just across the street, but if you like the Tourists vibe, this is the place.
The food is a nice New American cuisine, all ingredients are welcome, and the flavors are solid.
Island Creek oysters, arguably local and served with a bright mignonette, are a real standout.
The Lodge itself also offers food all day, with an option to pre-order breakfast to the room or in the lodge.
All-day snacks include sandwiches, salads, and very intriguing cocktail and beer lists.
Tourists Hotel really shines when it comes to activities: They have a full calendar of adventures to try, including guided nature walks, hikes, outdoor yoga classes, live music, and more.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Hiking: Trails directly from property; Mount Greylock nearby.
- Arts: North Adams (Mass MoCA), Williamstown (Williams College, Clark Art Institute).
- Scenic drives: Lenox with Shakespeare Company and Boston Pops summer house.
No, Tourists is not walking distance from the local club, but if you’re going to the Berkshires for hopping nightlife, we’d like to politely redirect your focus.
First of all, the hiking, much of which can happen right out Tourists’s backdoor.
If you’d like something off-campus, Mount Greylock is a classic, and there are many smaller hikes around it that will get you all the fresh air you need.
Both Williamstown and North Adams are worth a visit and equidistant.
North Adams is the bologna-face artsy side of the Berkshires, home to the world-class art collection of Mass MoCA.
Williamstown is home to Williams College and the famed Clark Art Institute.
It’s a college town, but a culture-focused one. You won’t find frat houses, you’ll find theaters and bistros and even more walking paths.
But you don’t even have to walk. The area is perfect for a relaxed drive into Lenox, home of an excellent Shakespeare Company and the Boston Pops’s summer house.
