On the boutique hotel scene, Martha’s Vineyard is Lark Hotels territory, and their Edgartown Collection again shows why this brand has taken off throughout New England.
The Edgartown Inn, top of the collection, offers everything you might want from a Cape and islands vacation.
You’ve got the renovated whaling captain’s house, surrounded by historic buildings, and there’s even a lighthouse in walking distance.
The hospitality is straightforward homely B&B, though the muted upscale decor feels like it belongs to your mom’s friend who’s on the board of the local environmental nonprofit, married a Boeing exec and vacations in the Maldives.
Yeah, sure, you’re not convinced she should be where she is, but through a certain lens it all looks good, and she does have fantastic taste.
Note: The Edgartown Inn is open seasonally, May-October.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 17
- Coastal: decor with wicker furniture and soft grays
- Small: Queen Rooms but well-equipped with modern amenities
- Suites: in outbuilding, roomy with space for four guests
- See each room in detail here
Guest room decor is coastal without leaning on the nautical, with dried grasses and many soft grays. The wicker furniture is especially charming, making everything feel summery and light.
Rooms have king and queen beds. The smallest are Queen Rooms, which are notably small but still impeccably decorated and equipped with all the amenities of larger accommodations.
This includes blackout curtains, Bluetooth radios, TVs, individual climate control, and the ever-important wine glasses and corkscrews.
Bathrooms have lovely bathrobes, Lather toiletries and white and gray tile that perfectly fits the rest of the room.
Other room categories give more space, porches and balconies, and cozy seating areas.
Two suites that sleep four guests are situated in a newly-constructed outbuilding. They’re roomy and sweet, though the views in the main house are arguably better.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Complimentary: breakfast with baked goods and oat treats
- Coffee: and tea available in chic dining room
- Outdoor: patio with fireplace and relaxing spaces
- No onsite: restaurant, concierge recommends local dining
It’s a B&B, so you’ll enjoy a complimentary breakfast that makes up for its simplicity with perfect execution. Get ready for top-notch baked goods and oat-based treats.
Coffee and tea are available in the dining room, where guests can have a relaxed morning before heading out for island adventure.
The common areas are decidedly chic, with a stone fireplace on the outdoor patio and many other spots to enjoy a little bit of sun and breeze.
There’s no onsite restaurant, so you’ll have to go out for lunch and dinner. Wander through town, or just rely on the concierge for recommendations.
A couple beach towels and chairs from the hotel, a stop by the local market for some sandwiches, and you’re in picnic territory.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Edgartown: is posh, quiet, and nature-filled
- Shopping: and art galleries clustered near Main Street
- Island: exploration: Oak Bluffs for nightlife, Vineyard Haven for calm
- Transport: options include bike rentals, buses, ferries
Edgartown is essentially Oak Bluff’s rich older sister, a bit more posh than the main Martha’s Vineyard ferry landing, and good for guests interested in a quiet and nature-filled, but not secluded, vacation.
As such, the shopping is superb, with a good number of stylish boutiques and a cluster of art galleries near Main Street.
It’s got its fair share of historical spots and parks, and a small stretch of beach.
Depending on the length of stay, it’s worth exploring the island’s other ‘big’ towns, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven.
Oak Bluffs is younger, lighthearted, and good for a night of revelry, while Vineyard Haven is perfect for those who want to keep it more low-key.
The imperative is a trip around the entire Island, for the nature, the views, and the general island vibe. The adventurous can try by bike, which you can rent in Edgartown.
Otherwise, there is a solid bus system, car rentals, and rideshare services. Ferries to Falmouth are accessible in Edgartown; for Woods Hole, Hyannis and Nantucket you’ll want to head to Oak Bluffs.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“The property was in an excellent location and was extremely welcoming. We arrived early but not a problem at all, we were treated to some warm chocolate cookies just out the oven. A very restful place to stay and everything in Edgartown is within walking distance. Good tips on where to visit and dine….”
“Everything! We were able to experience two different rooms because we had to add an extra night last minute and though both were in different floors and views they were very nicely appointed, clean and spacious. We loved the breakfast, fire pit, location and whole vibe of the place. The staff could not have been more helpful. Will definitely stay here again!….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Something out for guests around happy hour time would have been wonderful (in addition to the delicious chocolate chip cookies)….”
”The lack of breakfast options. Tight quarters for families with little kids. It is very quiet and more for adults. The kids running in the courtyard in the morning as the adults were trying to get breakfast was terrible….”
