It’s fairly obvious what makes this one-of-a-kind Bucktown, Chicago boutique hotel special. No matter what type of exercise you like, love, or are curious about, you’ll find it here.
Housed on a site with a decades-long history of world-class tennis clubs, the Hotel at Midtown is inside an awe-inspiring sports complex where members enjoy access to multiple pools, hours of fitness classes, and outstanding spa facilities.
It’s the ideal place for an active traveler. Our favorite aspect, however, is how well the hotel caters to the other aspects of traveling.
When you manage to tear yourself away from the activities, you’ll find excellent food alongside stylish and comfortable accommodation.

- Rooftop bar: SIX offers skyline views with drinks at any time of day.

The nominal fee for access to the Athletic Club is a must. From there, there’s a world of opportunity in that little keycard.
Leave any fears that an Athletic Center will skimp on food at the door. There are multiple dining options and while, yes, some are quite healthy, you’ll be able to indulge.
The snack and juice bar is a great pick-me-up, but the real stars are the rooftop bar and Chromium.
Chromium is the main dining area, and they offer a charming menu of classic American fare and an excellent selection of flatbreads and pizzas.
You can stick to a diet in style with a tropical-style shrimp salad or try and earn the calories back with a decadent Smashburger.
Chromium has a comfortable terrace where you can enjoy a little fresh air with your morning coffee, but for the real luxury you’ll want to head to the roof.
SIX rooftop bar looks over downtown Chicago and is tailor-made for watching the sun, moon, clouds, or city lights at any time of day.
When you’re ready to exercise, there are no limits. You’ll get all the classics like a lap pool, tennis and pickleball courts, weight rooms, and personal trainers.
Group classes include everything from Yoga & Mindfulness to a slightly more intimidating Core Pump.
Some surprises might be the golf simulator, the 100-yard turf Field, and the giant boxing gym.
The yoga studio is a gorgeously-designed testament to the club’s commitment to both the mind and body, as are the hydrotherapy pools.
On that note, let’s check out the spa. With moody lighting illuminating whites and grays, it’s built to relax.
You’ll find custom massages, luxurious facials, and a wide menu of hair and nail care and removal at the Salon.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Bucktown & Logan Square: Known for parks, art scenes, and dining spots.
- Sports nearby: Wrigley Stadium close by, perfect for baseball fans.
- Entertainment: Plenty of local restaurants and sports bars within reach.
Of course, the Athletic Club is the main draw here, but this is Chicago, and it’s impossible to find a neighborhood without fantastic dining and entertainment options.
Both Logan Square and Bucktown have stunning parks, bustling art scenes, and unique restaurants.
You’ll also be close to Wrigleyville, home to Wrigley Stadium and the darling Chicago Cubs. It’s the place to catch a game, or just have a beer at one of the many baseball-themed sports bars.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?

”Amazing sports facilities, esp pools and courts. Very comfy beds. Friendly and helpful staff. Easy location to walk to neighborhood restaurants which much better value than downtown…..”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”The night staff that checked us in was amazing the day time staff seemed a little bothered by questions I had. As if they did not have the time to answer or maybe unstaffed?….”
”A bit pricey and the location felt a little remote as I’m not familiar with Chicago, but for the extra $50-$75 it’s worth it….”
