Where Chicago’s new coolest neighborhood, Andersonville, meets Lincoln Square, Uptown and Ravenswood, lies the unassumingly titled Guesthouse Hotel.

We found the place itself equally charmingly unassuming but it has some of the best, and only to be fair, boutique accommodation in the area.

The Guesthouse is an aparthotel with guests staying in one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments with full kitchen facilities.

What are the rooms like?

25 individually sized apartments: ranging from 601 sq. ft. to 1800 sq. ft.
One-, two-, and three-bedroom units: with full kitchens, balconies, and modern facilities including cable TV, Nest thermostats, dishwashers, washing machines, and tumble dryers.
Comfortable, clean, and bright interiors: with a touch of class; former luxury condo converted into boutique aparthotel.

Their one-bedroom units can sleep up to four, the 1001 sq. ft. two bedroom units up to five, and the three-bedroom units up to seven with the help of a sofa bed.

They are all broadly similar – they mainly differ only in size – ranging from 601 sq. ft. to 1800 sq ft.

The building was a luxury condo before its reincarnation as a boutique apart hotel and internally that’s pretty much what you get – a luxury apartment to yourself.

For us the interior design and decoration might not be too dynamic, but there is certainly a touch of class and the rooms are enormously comfortable, clean, and bright.

All come with a balcony and modern apartment facilities such as cable TV, Nest thermostats, dishwashers, washing machines, and tumble dryers.

No on-site restaurant:, but partnered with Southport Grocery and Calo for breakfast, lunch, and dinner delivery.
Rooftop terrace: with BBQ and lounge chairs; cozy Club Room and Library adjacent to lobby.
Two boutique stores: by the lobby: local arts, crafts, jewelry, T-shirts, and snacks.
Small gym on-site: and optional spa treatments next door at Revive.

There’s no restaurant or bar at The Guesthouse but they have an agreement with two excellent local restaurants to supply catered meals on order, and there’s a snack shop in the entrance lobby.

Southport Grocery delivers breakfast which includes delicious pancakes and French toast, and lunch with a range of gourmet sandwiches, salads and soups.

In the evening then Calo, a local Italian restaurant can deliver a whole host of classic Italian dishes including some really great thin-crust pizza.

It being a hotel and not just an apartment block there are some nice social spaces. The roof terrace is a cool place to hang out, weather permitting, and has lounge chairs and a barbecue.

So too we liked the small, cozy Club Room and Library adjacent to the entrance lobby.

There are two small boutique, informal stores by the lobby too, one selling locally made arts n crafts, jewelry, teeshirts, and more, the other selling delectable snacks sourced from local businesses.

There’s a small hotel gym here and there is a spa just next door, Revive. You can also order certain spa treatments and massages to your room.

How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?

Located in Andersonville, one of Chicago’s hip Northside neighborhoods.
Walking distance to dozens of bars, cafes, restaurants, and boutique stores; near Green Mill jazz club.
About a mile from Lake Michigan and 15 minutes from Wrigley Field; Red Line metro nearby for 40-min ride to the Loop.

The Guesthouse Hotel is in Andersonville, one of Chicago’s most hip neighborhoods, and the hotel is surrounded by dozens of cool bars (including the famous jazz venue, Green Mill), cafes, restaurants and boutique stores.

We’re about a mile away from the lake and the nearest metro (Red Line) will take you to the Loop in about 40 minutes. Wrigley Field is about fifteen minutes away.

“This hotel is a hidden gem – simply incredible. If you are coming to Chicago for a Cubs game/want to stay on the Northside – STAY HERE. It is expensive, but it is worth it. My husband and adult son stayed in a 2 bedroom suite, which had 2 full bathrooms, a fireplace, a full working kitchen, and a grill on our terrace. Our only wish was that we could have stayed longer…..”

“The accommodations met all our requirements, which in itself was hard to find. Mostly, I appreciated the exceedingly friendly, helpful, and professional staff, whatever their position. All did whatever they could to make ours an enjoyable and comfortable visit……”
