This Inn on Siesta Key near Sarasota is a Florida beach house reimagined as boutique hotel.
It’s not super grand, which adds to the exclusivity, in our opinion.
Surrounded as it is by multi-story hotels and cookie-cutter apartment buildings, the small, breezy wooden house stands out in the best of ways.
It really looks like it belongs to someone’s stubborn grandmother, who refused to be bought out when the bigwig developers came to town.
In truth, it’s a mom-and-son operation started in the 90s, though the house was built in 1936 and remains one of the oldest on the Key.
It’s casual, sure. If you’re into 5-star luxury, this won’t be for you. We’re not talking designer bath amenities and turndown service.
At the end of the day, though, the welcoming atmosphere and proximity to the beach is hard to beat.
What are the rooms like?
- 6 individually decorated rooms: Beachy casual style, each unique.
- Smaller rooms: King Singles, some with private balconies or pool patio access.
- The Cottage: 3-bedroom, 8-person unit with private entrance.
- Amenities: Comfortable beds, TVs, most units have kitchenettes.

Rooms are, somewhat predictably, beachy casual. The decor is not super hip, or remarkably elegant, and it works perfectly for the space.
Even the newest of the wood is artfully worn, the textiles soft blues and bright whites.
There are cute geometric prints and seashell motifs, everything you’d expect from a small seaside house.
As often happens with inns of this size, each room is pretty unique. The smaller are King Singles, with various extras. One has a private balcony, another is accessible via the pool patio, etc.
The larger room sleeps up to 4, while perhaps the most notable accommodation is the Cottage.
This is an 8-person 3-bedroom unit with a private entrance and some serious charm. We’d highly recommend it for groups.
Whatever you choose, you’ll have most everything you need for a cozy stay.
The beds are notably comfortable, there are TVs in each unit, and most rooms have kitchenettes that let you cook for yourself.
Food & Facilities:
- Self-catering: Kitchenettes in units; hosts provide restaurant recommendations.
- Outdoor amenities: Backyard-style pool, courtyard seating.
- Beach gear: Chairs, umbrellas, baskets, readily available for guests.
There are no dining facilities on site. Each unit does offer enough to get you cooking on your own, but we suspect you’ll end up taking recommendations from the friendly hosts instead.
They’ll be happy to recommend spots for every meal.
We will note that the grocery store selection on the Key is somewhat limited, and pricey. It’s what you’d expect from a small, vacation town surrounded by water.
Beach gear you can find at the hotel, readily available. We’re talking chairs, umbrellas, baskets, you name it.
Or, just hang on the hotel grounds. They’ve got a lovely backyard-feeling pool, and a courtyard by the check-in office with seating for guests.
The Neighborhood:
- Beach access: Siesta Key Beach #9 is a 5-minute walk, expansive sand and swimming areas.
- Dining nearby: Walk to restaurants along Ocean Boulevard (furthest point ~20 min).
- Short drives: Downtown Sarasota (15 min), Lido Key (20 min), Myakka River State Park (40 min).
- Nature activities: Kayaking at Palmer Point Park and Jim Neville Marine Preserve (~15 min drive).
If you want beach, this is the place.
Siesta Key Beach access #9 is a 5-minute walk from the hotel, leading to an expanse of sand that extends halfway down the Key.
You’ll be able to walk to most of the dining options, which are focused along Ocean Boulevard. It’s a 20-minute walk to the furthest point.
There’s plenty of nature on the south side of the Key. There’s a spot to put in kayaks for a jaunt around Palmer Point Park and the Jim Neville Marine Preserve, about a 15-minute drive from the hotel.
If you’d like to head into the city, it’s a 15-minute drive to Downtown Sarasota, and about 20 minutes to Lido Key and the northern beaches.
If you’d like to see more nature head to Myakka River State Park. It’s a great place to spot wildlife that takes about 40 minutes to get to from the hotel.
