The Colony is a Palm Beach, Florida, boutique hotel with some of the most retro charm the island has to offer.
From the pink stucco exterior to the mint green wallpaper in some of the rooms, it’s an exercise in balancing the quirky and the chic.
And they do it well.
There’s a history to the place, from its original construction in 1947 to the multi-year restoration project that ended in 2022.
Throughout, owners have strived to preserve the original character of the hotel, thus the collection of potentially-odd but-ultimately-charming design decisions that make it what it is.
The most recent renovation has allowed for a real triumph of melding modern sensibilities with historical whimsy.
You’ve got colors you never imagined holding their own, and you’ve got some of the most unique guestrooms in the region.
Ultimately, you’ve got a real dedication to top-notch hospitality in gorgeous vintage packaging.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 93 rooms ranging from Standard to Superior Suites with various layouts.
- Room features: Standard Rooms are smaller, Premium slightly larger, Junior and Superior Suites spacious with multiple beds.
- Decor: Pastel blues, greens, and golds with floral patterns and vintage touches.
- Amenities: Smart TVs, robes, slippers, Keurig coffee makers, pull-out sofas, microwaves, mini fridges.

Standard Guest Rooms seem to use the original architecture and are therefore on the smaller side.
This is common in historical hotels, but a bit rare in these parts. Premium Rooms offer a tad more space, almost hitting 200 square feet.
You’ll want to go to the suite level, though, if you need to stretch out. Junior Suites start at 375 square feet, enough for any independent traveler and most couples.
Superior Suites have two bathrooms and are great for families. Double rooms and suites all feature two full beds.
Decor is in line with the rest of the property. It even hits a little harder in some places, with blue-and-white patterning on both headboards and curtains of many of the rooms.
It’s mostly going to be a calming, pastel blue, but there are rooms in varying shades of green and gold, with plenty of floral patterning throughout.
Whatever you choose, it will be meticulously decorated, as long as you’re happy with the general aesthetic, we think you’ll like it.
You’ll also have plenty of amenities, including Smart TVs, either brand-name or bespoke amenities and linens, robes and slippers.
Suites all feature Keurig coffee makers, pull-out sofas, microwaves, and mini fridges.
Food & Facilities:
- Multiple dining options: Swifty’s offers New American cuisine, Pink Paradise Café serves light fare, The Living Room for casual bites and drinks.
- Pool & leisure: Poolside magazine stand, seasonal fitness classes, beach setups available.
- Transportation & concierge: Complimentary cars, beach cruisers, golf buggies, and 24-hour concierge service.
There are multiple dining areas in the hotel, often best for nightlife, but with some nice variety.
First, there’s Swifty’s, a New York transplant offering three meals a day in a wide-ranging space with gorgeous outdoor seating.
The cuisine is New American, with all the classics you’d expect to be brought down from the East Coast. Dinner, especially, is worth the (hefty) price tag.
If you prefer something a bit more casual, the Pink Paradise Café offers light fare alongside coffee and pastries.
For the hours between coffee and cocktails, we have The Living Room, where you can enjoy both simultaneously. They’ve got games and the odd musical guest as well.
The pool is one of the top facilities, with a super-cute magazine stand on the side. Seasonal fitness classes are offered, and glorious beach setups can be requested for your trips to the sand.
There’s plenty of complimentary transportation as well, from pastel pink Range Rovers to beach cruisers to golf buggies.
The 24-hour concierge will help you take advantage of any and all Palm Beach opportunities.

It’s a superb location that, with the hotel’s transportation offerings, means you could easily avoid using cars during your vacation.
Walk the 3 minutes to the sand, or the 3 minutes to the art galleries on the closest corner of Worth Ave.
From there, you can either spend a day sunning or spend a day window shopping, or very easily both.
It’s probably worth wandering around the rest of the island, either up the beach or along the side streets, checking out the local architecture.
You can get to the Flagler Museum in half an hour’s walk, or a 10-minute bike ride, and the Society of the Four Arts is closer than that.
Head into West Palm Beach for some ‘inner city’ time. The bars and restaurants of Cityplace are just a 10-minute drive.
Schedule the trip alongside a show at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for Performing Arts if you like, or check out the Norton Museum of Art.
