This old Key West boutique hotel tucked away in a residential area is the real Florida Keys deal.
One of the oldest operating guesthouses on the Key, Eden House is a wood-panelled, tiki-bar sporting, well-named paradise.
It’s historic, which means quirky, non-standardized charm. A set of converted conch houses serves as a cluster of compact guest rooms and deluxe accommodations.
If you prefer a checklist of Hilton-esque luxuries, this might not be the place.
On the other hand, it might be the perfect opportunity to experiment.
It’s not that the luxury isn’t there; it’s that it’s a bit sneaky, woven in with a home-away-from-home atmosphere that has you wondering why don’t I too have a porch swing back home in northern Minnesota?
We especially love the natural wood interiors to many of the rooms. It gives a tree/beach house vibe to the entire experience, and the natural textures are woven throughout the property.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 35
- Size: Many rooms are compact; larger Suites and Loft Suite offer more space.
- Options: King/Queen Singles, Queen Doubles, and Deluxe King Singles.
- Design: Simple beachy style with white-and-blue palette and wood accents.
- Amenities: Basic rooms with TV and fridge, upgrade to add seating, coffee machines & microwaves.
- See each room in detail here
The biggest message to get out there is that many rooms are small. Historic buildings, lalala, one of a kind, lalala, but if you need space, don’t take chances.
There are plenty of larger options; we’re especially partial to the Loft Suite for example.
Any of the Suites should suffice, however, and the Deluxe King Singles will house a couple quite comfortably.
Budget-focused travelers or those planning on spending most of their time poolside can opt for Queen or King Singles, with or without porch swings, or Queen Doubles.
The decor is beachy chill, mostly white, and mostly letting what’s outside do the talking.
There’s nothing much to write home about, besides a predictable blue/white color scheme and wooden touches in varying styles and colors.
Your super basic rooms can’t fit much more than TV and a mini fridge, but from there you’ll get more typical amenities like seating, coffee machines and microwaves.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining: Onsite Azur Restaurant serving Mediterranean fare, plus breakfast.
- Drinks: Poolside Tiki Bar with a fun, laid-back vibe.
- Relaxation: Pool, hot tub, hammocks, and porch swings throughout.
- Extras: Welcome drink, property tour, and bike rentals for exploring.
On arrival, you’ll get a welcome drink in your hand and a tour of the gorgeous property.
There are water features throughout, though none as immersive as the pool and hot tub, and hammocks and porch swings to relax on.
The onsite Azur Restaurant is a laid-back homage to Mediterranean dining, with extensive outdoor seating and a more standard breakfast option.
The Tiki Bar by the pool is kitschy in the best of ways, the perfect place for a cool drink in the shade, on a hot afternoon.
Bike rentals are available on the property to help you explore the rest of the Keys.

The location depends on your needs.
If you like to explore, this is the place. It’s tucked away in a calm residential area, inviting you to find your way to some Key West, hotspots and perfect for some sunset strolls.
And even, in our opinion, if you want to party all afternoon and stumble home, you can still do it.
You’re just a 15-minute walk from Duval Street, the center of Key West’s social scene.
You can easily wander around, meet some locals, grab a cold beverage of any sort, and get home without too much trouble.
The Key West Cemetery is also nearby, 5 minutes from the hotel.
If you’re not much of a walker, though, you might miss out on some of the area’s charm.
Fort Zachary Taylor State Park is one of the best places in the Keys to enjoy the seaside, and it will be almost half an hour on foot.
Nearby, you’ll find the Key West Amphitheater, the Aquarium, the Maritime Museum, and more.
There are plenty of boat charters on nearby Palm Ave, however, so getting out to sea shouldn’t be much of a problem.
The hotel should be able to point you towards some good companies for fishing, snorkeling, and sandbar visits.
Anyone with a car and some patience, however, will be able to drive anywhere on the Key in less than 10 minutes.
And those who want a day trip can head to either Marathon or Bahia Honda Beach for an hour’s drive along the stunning seaside.
