Occasionally, staying in Downtown Colorado Springs makes it feel like you have to choose between something refined and something interesting.
If you don’t like that feeling (few of us do), Kinship Landing is your answer.
Run by locals and experienced travelers, this Colorado Springs boutique hotel has a style of its own.
Walls have so much woodwork Abe Lincoln might have built the place, but if he had the design sensibilities of a millennial marketing exec from San Diego.
So the vibe hints at youth, but we think anyone who likes clean design and a warm atmosphere would enjoy it here.
It’s a little bit different, but still comfortable, so really, just a lot of what we like in a boutique hotel.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 80 total, with a wide range of layouts.
- Style: Bright, minimalist design with wood paneling and thoughtful details.
- Options: Junior Suites, Suite Suites, Family Suites, Bunks, and the adventurous Camp Deck.
- Amenities: Quality mattresses and linens, Smart TVs, sinks, fridges, and kettles.

Rooms are bright and friendly, like the rest of the hotel. Many have floor-to-ceiling wood paneling, with beds tucked into little platforms.
It makes for a designed feeling without a bunch of stuff tacked to the walls, or even a bunch of furniture. Minimalist without feeling too minimalist, we can say, with well-chosen decorative elements in just the right places.
And there are many options. The Junior Suites are the least lux, but still plenty comfortable, with Queens, Kings and lofted Bunk options.
Suite Suites are Queen, King or Double Queen, the King Suite perhaps our favorite, with a fireplace and soaking tub in the main room.
The Family Suite and Bunk rooms are nice options for bigger groups, and real adventurers will love the open-air Camp Deck.
Excepting the Camp Deck, all rooms offer lovely mattresses and linens, Smart TVs, and mini-sinks, mini-fridges, and kettles.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining: Onsite café Homa, open all day to guests and the public.
- Menu: New American with local produce, pasture-raised eggs, fresh bread, and local beers.
- Spaces: The Greenhaus (plant-filled greenhouse) and outdoor yard for relaxing or events.
There is an onsite café, Homa, where you can snack or just hang day and night. The bottom floor is open to the public, from the outdoor patios to the snug fireplace lounge.
The menu is New American, with a definite granola flair. Eggs are pasture-raised, a lot of the produce is local, the bread is super-fresh.
Drinks are classic and well-executed, the menu stacked with local beers and even some mocktails for the non-alcoholic crowd.
Highlights of the common area are the Greenhaus, a plant-filled greenhouse with seating, and the yard, an outside hangout with games available and lots of wooden chairs to hang in.
Both spaces are open to event rentals.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Downtown access: Close to the Pioneers Museum and U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum.
- Culture: Cottonwood Center for the Arts within walking distance.
- Outdoors: Easy drives to Garden of the Gods, Manitou Springs, and Pikes Peak.
The immediate vicinity is probably not the most exciting spot in Colorado Springs.
It is, however, not far from many interesting places Downtown, and the staff is more than ready to help you decided where to go.
The hotel is walking distance from both the Pioneers Museum and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum.
It’s not a super charming walk along the giant streets, but it’s not bad either.
The Cottonwood Center of the Arts has art exhibitions and classes, also just a short distance away.
To be fair, most locals will recommend getting out of the city, but that’s less a reflection on Colorado Springs as a loving tribute to the surrounding area.
You’ll want to head west, where you’ll find nearby parks like Garden of the Gods and Manitou Springs.
They’re roughly a 10-minute drive, and full of red rock formations and gorgeous vistas.
Pikes Peak is the quintessential journey, which can be done by car or on foot. It’s not a technically challenging hike, but a serious endeavor in length alone.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“The style of the room was just so sleek modern clean and unique, it was such a beautiful room! The mattress was so clean and so soft so were the pillows. The whole room was extremely clean and modern I loved the set up of everything and the room had everything we needed for our stay. The staff were so kind and efficient. And the hotel all around was modern clean and the style was so awesome….”
“Exceptional. Hip, fresh, clean, great location….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”We stayed in hotels with a similar price point on this vacation. The others offered free parking, free breakfast, and decaf in the room. I felt like we were being charged for everything here, including $3.75 for decaf coffee in the morning….”
”Located on a Main Street – traffic at night and early morning. Worth it, since very excellent location….”
