TL;DR
- Size & feel: Large boutique hotel but still intimate, and very well-staffed.
- Design: Contemporary chalet with huge windows for mountain views.
- Vibe: Sophisticated casual all around.
- Location: Outside Aspen proper, feels quite exclusive.

Viceroy Snowmass is at the larger end for a boutique hotel, but it’d be hard to not include this luxurious uber-lodge.
It’s small and well-staffed enough to feel intimate, professional enough to let you enjoy the independence of a mountain vacation, and absolutely set up.
The lodge is designed like a chalet, but fully contemporary in vibe and materials, meaning you’ve got huge windows for huge views.
Amenities are plentiful and common areas a sophisticated kind of new opulent. It’s sexy enough for a couple’s vacation and entertaining enough for a family.
Being outside of Aspen proper, this hotel’s prices might end up feeling a bit excessive.
If you’re shelling out to feel like you’re the height of society, we might steer you more towards the center.
If you want a homier, slower kind of luxury without losing any of the aesthetics, this will do nicely.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 169 with options from Studios to Four-Bedroom Suites.
- Towers: Cirque Tower for residential stays and Pinnacle Tower near recreation.
- Amenities: Individual climate control, fireplaces, HDTVs, bathrobes, and luxury bathrooms.
- Kitchen: Equipped with stove tops, Nespresso, fridge, microwave, and optional pantry stocking.
- See each room in detail here
There are two main areas to stay in at Viceroy, the brand-new Cirque Tower and the classic Pinnacle Tower.
Cirque is the more residential of the two, best for longer stays and set away from the main bustle of the hotel.
Rooms are bigger, more open, arguably more private.
Pinnacle Tower is home to both accommodation and recreation, housing the onsite restaurants, spas and pools.
The ski lift sits right outside, and it’s the best option for anyone hoping to take full advantage of the hotel’s long list of activities.
There’s plenty of space for all, with options from Studios to Four-Bedroom Suites in the Pinnacle Tower.
The uniformity of amenities is impressive; whatever you choose, you can expect to be well cared for.
The biggest difference: many (not all!) Studios lack a balcony. If you absolutely need some room-adjacent outdoor space, you can choose any other room type.
Other than that, we’re looking at individual climate control, fireplaces, HDTVs, and cozy bathrobes and slippers.
Bathrooms have tubs and showers, with luxury toiletries.
Kitchen areas are decked out with stove tops, Nespresso machines, pots and pans, fridges, and microwaves.
The hotel can stock the pantry, if desired.
Decor is definitely That Of A Hotel, but with some clever furniture, large windows, and nicely chosen accent pieces, they have a contemporary stylishness that we think will feel attractive for many years.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Restaurants: Toro for breakfast and dinner, Lounge for lunch. Choice of venues for evening drinks.
- Food: Room kitchens allow optional pantry stocking, wine and cocktails live up to Aspen prices.
- Facilities: 24-hour fitness center, multiple pools, terrace bar, spa with plunge pool, infrared sauna, salon services.
There are two/three options for food, Toro, the main restaurant, and the Lounge.
Toro is open for breakfast and dinner, The Lounge providing grab-and-go fare for lunches that should keep you satisfied.
You may feel like the food leans towards the side of overpriced. With all the kitchen facilities in the room, a call to the hotel to stock the pantry might be the more exciting option.
Wine and cocktails, on the other hand, live up to the Aspen price tag, and we think the decor is worth a visit.
After a day of skiing, order a glass of red and just enjoy the plush upholstery, giant plants, and elegant fireplace.
Everything else you’d expect is top-notch, including a stacked 24-hour fitness center, multiple pools and a terrace bar.
The onsite spa is both large and well-equipped, with a large menu of treatment options, a plunge pool and an infrared sauna.
Salon services are limited, but do include hair removal.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Village: Snowmass is a complete mountain village, mostly walkable only to ski lift or lounge.
- Nearby: Local market and Snowmass Mall under 5 minutes away, Anderson Ranch Arts Center nearby.
- Culture: Aspen 20-minute drive with downtown, restaurants, shopping, museum, opera, and trailheads.
Viceroy Snowmass is the resort’s name and address, though with it being almost a complete mountain village in itself, you might not end up seeing much of Snowmass.
If you’re feeling adventurous the local market is less than 5 minutes, as well as the Snowmass Mall.
The Anderson Ranch Arts Center, a lovely nonprofit school/gallery, is just 5 minutes away in the direction of Aspen.
Aspen itself is a lovely 20-minute drive through the mountains, where you’ll find a small, walkable downtown full of cute restaurants and shopping.
There’s also an Art Museum, an Opera House and many other cultural activities.
Trailheads are scattered throughout Snowmass, around Aspen, and more than easy to get to.
Hike, ski or snowshoe, we promise you won’t run out of reasons or opportunities to get outside.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Incredible stay in a beautiful location. Staff was excellent and went above to make our stay great and the rooms were spacious, ability to open a window to enjoy the cool night air is a bonus! Loved it….”
“Very nice room. Small studio with tons of closet and drawer space. Nice bathroom and comfortable bed. Small pool and large hot tub outside. The front desk person checking me in was fantastic! Friendly valet parking people….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
” Toro, the only restaurant, was mediocre. The food was nothing to write home about. The trout was burnt on the skin side and very dry meat. Salmon, was…okay. Wine and cocktails were very good, but when the server picked up the empty glasses, he didn’t ask if we wanted another round. First time that has ever happened!…”
”Pricey. Hard to see from road…”
