Century old buildings scattered with antiques and a romantic elegance in the heart of Downtown?
Sometimes there’s really nothing more we’d want in a boutique hotel in San Francisco.
Taj Campton Place is one of a group of hotels dedicated to creating luxury accommodation out of buildings with character and history.
Surrounded by chain-run glass giants like the Grand Hyatt or the Hilton, this more subtle luxury stands out.
Focused more on comfort than on eye-catching design, the timeless simplicity of the rooms, the lobby, and the dining areas promises a relaxed stay with a lot of pampering potential.

One benefit of a more established hotel is high-quality cuisine and convenient facilities. At Taj Campton Place, the dining options are top class, typically bringing in both local diners and visitors from the other nearby hotels.
Unfortunately for non-guests, the restaurant and bistro spaces are currently being renovated, meaning the sought-after meals can only be accessed through room service.
Pair it with the exemplary mini-bar delivery service for off-the-charts indulgence.
You’ll get classic American fare with sprinklings of Southeast Asian classics, like a mouth-watering Aloo Paratha and a selection of beautifully crafted curry bowls.
Ask the staff which of the wide selection of California wines to pair with your pick.
Head upstairs to enjoy the view from the open-air fitness terrace. You’ll want to visit, even if it’s just for a leisurely stroll on the treadmill while you take in the sights.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Central location: In Downtown San Francisco with city views and convenience.
- Theatre District: Just south, with many theaters along Geary Street.
- Shopping & ferries: Upscale shops leading up to Embarcadero and lively ferry terminals.
- Mission & Castro: Walkable or reachable by BART; known for food, nightlife, and LGBTQ+ culture.
- Presidio & Golden Gate: Easy access with the hotel’s town car, plus scenic parks and views.
Downtown may not be the most romantic of all possible locations, but the magic of a hilly city like San Francisco is that you’ll have a good view no matter what.
Beyond that, there’s no beating the convenience.
Head south for the Theatre District if you’re ready for a show in one of the many theaters lining Geary Street.
You’ll find upscale shopping on the way up to Embarcadero. Once you get there, hang out by the lively ferry terminals or even catch a boat to the mainland.
The Mission and Castro are walkable if you brought comfortable shoes and an umbrella for either rain or shine.
If you want to take it easy, grab the BART towards the Mission and start your wander from there.
You’ll find a charming combination of green California cuisine, relaxed hangouts, LGTBQ+ exuberance and gorgeous street culture. Murals are scattered throughout, as well as some intriguing boutique shopping.
Reserve the hotel’s “by availability” town car to head Northwest towards Golden Gate.
We recommend you take a stop in the spectacular Presidio park, where you can wander for hours.
