It’s hard to get closer to the sea than this spot of Malibu boutique luxury.
This is the entire experience of Malibu, a place which is nothing without its place on the edge of the ocean.
Malibu Beach Inn could hold its own anywhere as a hotel but we like it just where it is.
Gazing out the glass windows of one of their oceanfront suites, it feels like you could jump off your balcony straight into the Pacific.
When that’s the case, any beachfront hotel in LA will already have done most of its work. But Malibu Beach Inn doesn’t stop there.

- Drinks: Extensive wine list, sunset bubbly on your balcony.
- Spa: Full-service Cure spa with facials, botox, Reiki, micro-needling.

The hotel restaurant, the Carbon Beach Club, seems intent on spoiling its guests with everything the sea has to offer.
You’ll find oysters, lobster, crab, and some spectacular tuna.
Produce and some of the meats are sourced locally, making up the rest of a charming Californian menu.
Weekend brunch is luxurious, offering your typical Benedicts alongside Mediterranean shakshuka or even a doughnut tower.
The best seating is outdoors, and most of these options are available for room service.
The wine list is extensive and there’s nothing like a glass of bubbly during the kinds of spectacular sunsets you’re going to see from your private balcony.
If you’re not hungry, head down to the beach for a small-group yoga session, arranged at the spa.
The Cure spa is a full-service, medically-informed treatment facility that is equipped to send you back to daily life feeling and looking your best. They offer remote Reiki, a variety of facials, botox, fillers and micro needling.
Ask the concierge, and they’ll be happy to organize other southern California experiences like surf lessons, for example.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Location: On Carbon Beach, outside central LA bustle.
- Nearby: Malibu Pier, Pacific Coast Highway restaurants, state beaches, hiking trails.
- Access: Easy drives to Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, and LA museums.
Carbon Beach is outside the main bustle of LA, giving the Malibu Beach Inn its feeling of true relaxation. However, there’s still plenty to do and see beyond the beach.
Malibu Pier has shopping and dining in a unique location, and you’ll find other top-notch restaurants nestled along the Pacific Coast Highway.
Many of these are walking-distance, but driving along the PCH is a bucket-list item on its own.
If you want some variety in your nature, there are many hiking trails, state beaches, and viewpoints on the way north or south.
Heading south will take you to the iconic neighborhoods of Santa Monica and Venice Beach.
Here you’ll find all the beach sport, shopping and fine dining you could wish for. If you still want something busier, head east for Beverly Hill’s luxury shopping, Hollywood’s classic entertainment, and many fabulous LA museums.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“The location was amazing, beach frontage and access to a private beach. The room was out of this world for comfort and the view of the pier and Pacific was lovely to wake up to every morning. The staff were all excellent and the food and restaurant were both fantastic….”
“Very comfortable relaxing boutique hotel. The staff was excellent in every aspect of our stay. I even stood an extra day because of it. We can’t wait to go back…..”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”There was no under light at the bar area. Had to use the main switch to see my coffee maker to make coffee…”
”Not a fan of valet parking, for $36US/day, but I guess it was necessary, given space. People/attendants were very efficient though….”
